The Princess Diaries is a movie about a young San Franciscan girl, Mia Thermopolis (Anne Hathaway), who finds out she's Princess of Genovia. Julie Andrews plays Queen Clarisse Renaldi, Mia's grandmother, who comes to see the girl and ask her to assume her princess duties because her estranged father died in an accident last month.

Mia agrees to start training to be a princess while juggling a school life that includes her best friend Lilly (Heather Matarazzo) and nemesis Lana (Mandy Moore). Her life quickly turns into a circus when the media finds out who she really is and starts hounding her every move. Mia has to make the hard choice of whether or not she's really cut out to be royalty.
