I'm not exactly sure what I was expecting when I went to see Wedding Crashers. For some reason I
thought it would be a gross juvenile movie of low character. It is
that, but it's also a nice romantic comedy and you know how much I love
romantic comedies.
John (Owen Wilson) and Jeremy (Vince Vaughn) are divorce mediators who
have an unusual hobby -- they love to crash weddings. They pretend to
be obscure relatives. The blend in by being extravagant and visible.
And they pick up lots of girls. Lots of vulnerable women who are
intoxicated with the wedding ambiance.
They cap the wedding season by attending the wedding of Secretary
Cleary's (Christopher Walken) daughter. And everything changes for them
both. John is instantly smitten with Cleary's daughter (not the one
getting married) Claire (Rachel McAdams). He has to be with her and of
course she has a boyfriend Sack (Bradley Cooper who played Will Tippin
on "Alias").
Jeremy on the other hand meets Gloria (Isla Fisher), the youngest
Cleary sister. He has sex with her at the reception and then discovers
that she's somewhat eccentric and completely clingy. There's nothing
that Jeremy wants more to do than to leave yet John wants to stay so
when Gloria invites Jeremy over to spend the weekend at the mansion
John accepts for both of them.

Both romantic
subplots run their course with few surprises. What makes the movie
funny are some of the situations the pair get into individually and
together. The whole intro crashing into a wedding is hilarious as are
the montages. Jeremy and Claire are also funny in that she keeps
thinking she needs to take it to the next level whereas Jeremy just
wants to be left alone.
John and Claire's romance was paced well. I didn't think it was rushed
at the end as it sometimes is in romantic comedies. The secondary
romance was also nice given the lesser screen time. Overall I really
liked this movie.
