I ran this large battle during DunDraCon XXII from about 22:00 Friday Feb 23, 1998 to 07:00 Saturday. Present were Donald Kubasak (Selena Kyle), David Sweet (Sir Wrigley), Eric Rowe (Clyde Brown), Chisholm Gentry (Roger Isa), Christopher Wong (Jinx), and Troy [Dave's nephew] (Shade). Pictures were taken by Dave using a Connectix Color Quick Cam. Two pictures were taken at the start of each round. Next year we'll use a better camera :-)

Game time is July 3022. The Blowfish are on a one year mission, escorting Subhash Indrahar into the Free Worlds League. On the planet of Marcus, they stop to fix some damage sustained by the Swordfish (their Union dropship). Jinx and Shade show up. They have discovered that a Battalion of enemy mechs will shortly be assaulting the Blowfish position in an attempt to destroy the Swordfish. They don't know that the mechs are Wilson's Hussars, hired by Duke Muirvald Cooke to assassinate Selena, who claims the Dukedom of Altair. The Blowfish have only 14 mechs to hold off the enemy force (It's worse than that because I don't let PCs from absent players play, this reduced the Blowfish forces by 3).

Each lance commander got to make a Strategy roll to determine option points. The points could be used for foxholes, air strikes, hidden placement, or to delay enemy reinforcements (the Blowfish determined that the enemy was coming in waves by Company, wave 1 on turn 1, wave 2 on turn 13, wave 3 on turn 25). Selena chose to have her lance offboard; she could bring her mechs in any woods hex at any time during the game. Sir Wrigley and Clyde chose air strikes with their option points.

The playing board is eight maps drawn by Shannon Appel. Four maps along the North edge and four maps along the South edge. Each map is oriented lengthwise North South. Along the North, East, and West edge is the ocean. Hills go up to the sea on the West edge. Various hills and forests are scattered. The Swordfish is on the North-East corner of the playing area, behind a tall hill and dense forest.
