Archon Issues Peace Proposal

Tharkad, District of Donegal, Lyran Commonwealth

Today, Archon Katrina Steiner issued her Peace Proposal to the other Houses of the Inner Sphere. She calls for an end to current hostilities, citing the futility of each House to make any significant territorial gains.

"The last few decades of fighting have resulted in a net gain of only a dozen worlds for the [Federated Suns]," said the Archon in her speech. "Meanwhile, living conditions have fallen precipitously as each economy struggles to maintain its armed forces on the field. As responsible rulers we must stop the senseless fighting and focus on the betterment of our people's welfare."

Analyst Vince Estacio of IAC cautions readers to look beneath the surface of the Proposal. "Keep in mind that the Lyran Commonwealth has lost a few worlds in the last two years. Their armed forces seem unable to gain a decisive victory against either the Free Worlds League or the Draconis Combine. The Lyran Commonwealth needs a few years of relative peace to rebuild its armed forces after Hesperus II."

FNS was unable to get any reactions to the Proposal from any of the other Houses.

Colonel James Smithson Dead

New Avalon, Crucis March, Federated Suns

Colonel James Smithson died last Friday from a heart attack at the age of 48. Smithson was the commander of the Davion Royal Brigade of Guards at the time of his untimely death. He is best remembered for saving Prince Hanse Davion's life in 3013 as the Prince was returning from Mallory's World with his brother Ian's body. Then leftenant Smithson was promoted to captain for his heroism and eventually rose to command the Royal Brigade.

"He was a good friend and I will sorely miss him," said Prince Hanse Davion.

Colonel Smithson leaves behind his wife and three sons. A memorial will be held on Sunday.

Outworlds Alliance Envoy Arrives on New Avalon

New Avalon, Crucis March, Federated Suns

Douglas Aguillez, ambassador from the Outworlds Alliance, arrived on New Avalon this morning to meet with Prince Hanse Davion. The ambassador is here to "discuss a treaty that will bring our two nations closer together in peace" said the ambassador. Although the Alliance is only a periphery state, Prince Davion surprised everybody when he consented to this meeting.

"It makes some sense," commented analyst Pender Torias of IAC. "The Alliance anchors one end of the Davion-Kurita border. If Prince Davion can at least keep the Alliance uninvolved in any Davion-Kurita conflicts then the AFFS can divert more troops to other areas."

New Avalon officials emphasized that this meeting does not have any military agendas. "This is simply an economic meeting. The Outworlds Alliance is an untapped market for Federated Suns goods. Conversely, they manufacture some things that are rare in the worlds near the Alliance. A trade alliance would benefit both nations."

This Date in History

On this date in 2779 Stefan Amaris the Usurper was executed. Amaris, then ruler of the Rim Worlds Republic, occupied the Terran Hegemony and had First Lord Richard Cameron and his family killed on 2767. What followed was twelve years of war as the Star League armies fought their way from the periphery to Earth. In the end, Amaris' troops were defeated and the Usurper was executed. With the death of the First Lord and his family, the Star League fell apart as each House Lord proclaimed himself First Lord of the Star League, starting the First Succession War.
