Encounter 1: Another Sunday Morning

All

"It's a bright Sunday morning in Island City. The few white clouds in the sky complement the brilliant rays of sunshine over the State of Hawaii. Only a few people are up and about this early -- fishermen, kids playing ball, policemen and military personnel."

"It's the morning of December 7, 1941. The War engulfing the rest of the world has yet to reach American soil. Although most people, even here in Hawaii, seem complacent and secure with the a whole ocean to protect both coasts, the US Navy and other Armed Forces have been slowly preparing for the perhaps inevitable conflict."

El Gato

"Another early Sunday morning at work. You open the door to the animal lab to the sound of a hundred different cute furry quadrupeds greeting you. Are they happy to see you or is it just the food you bring them? You don't really care, it's just nice to see all your furry friends in a good mood. Well, times a wasting and these cats won't feed themselves."

Peter Pan

"It's Sunday, it's early. You're asleep in your boat. Dimly in one part of your mind you register the gentle rocking of the boat and the tromp of people. Sounds like a lot of people moving about, talking in hushed tones. Whatever they're up to, at least they're being quiet about it you think as you drift back to sleep."

Kid Invincible

"This suit is the hardest thing you've ever tried to use. Ever since you started using it more than two months ago you've been practicing and practicing, getting better in fits and starts. The suit makes you faster, stronger, hardier, you can even sometimes fly. This morning you are out once again, practicing. Someday you figure you'll be good enough to start fighting crime like the other super-heroes you hear about on the radio news."
Rad, the Radiation Man

"Today is the culmination of years of painstaking work. Years of schooling, a PhD from Island City University, a leader in the almost-still theoretical field of Nuclear Physics. All with the aim of curing your disease. Now, with military funding, you have finally finished the RadiaCyclotron, which is sure to revolutionize the field of medicine. It's worked on rabbits, dogs, birds, even your pet iguana. Now it's time to test it on humans, and who better to be the first test subject than yourself? As you sit in the RadiaCyclotron's chamber and watch through the window at Holly setting up the instruments, you feel strangely calm. With a smile and thumbs-up gesture, Holly turns the RadiaCyclotron on."

Game Master Notes

Peter Pan should make a Perception check (AV/EV 4/6) vs OV/RV 6/3 (DEX of the Assault Troops +2 CS OV asleep penalty) to see if he wakes up.
  • 1 RAP (13): wakes up to loud noises.
  • 2 RAPs (13): lots of people outside moving around.
  • 3 RAPs (15): they're not speaking English and it sounds like they have weapons!
Kid Invincible should make a Perception roll (AV/EV 5/4) vs OV/RV 7/5 (Thief: Stealth 5 +1 CS OV distance penalty) to accientally spot the Sapper Team sneaking around the ICMRC:
  • 1 RAP (15): there seems to be some activity at the ICMRC.
  • 3 RAPs (21): looks like some Japanese soldiers have infiltrated the base.
  • 7 RAPs (36): It's a Japanese Sapper Team and an Assault Platoon geting ready to attack!
The other characters are too far inside to hear anything. Should either of them rush to attack, the Japanese will begin the assault prematurely. Peter Pan will be dealt with by Sumo while Tsunami (or the Sapper Team) will deal with Kid Invincible. The Sapper Team will detonate the bombs they have, leveling Labs 1 and 2.
