Synopsis

Professor Ulan Huminitz, visiting from the UK, is here to talk to Riff about robotics. Riff shows him around but Huminitz is not impressed by Riff's shoddy workmanship and uninspired designs -- other than the toaster. Riff does make it up in a later visit, leaving Huminitz with the impression that Riff is not someone to be underestimated should one be concerned with world domination through the use of giant robots. Not that Huminitz is such a person of course...

Bradley Jones (Rad) is visiting his camotose wife, who has not gotten any better in the months since the accident. There is an experimental treatment which may help Holly, but it's quite expensive and the government is unwilling to pay for it. Jones has to find more money somewhere...

Walking to the library one day after work, Ghosty is accosted by three young punks who want her money to pay off Paul, their dealer. Ghosty easily handles Jane, John, and John's friend then talks them into checking into the rehab center at the hospital. She then visits Paul, who tries to kill her. Once Paul is dealt with, he confesses that he works for Tony Lucerno, who said that the kids will be dealt with.
Meanwhile, Riff is wheeling Bradley home when they spot a murder in progress. Riff (and later Rad) stop the murder and capture the three assailants. At the police station they find that the men are former members of a World War I Army unit. Four other members are living in Island City: ex-Major Roger Nathan, ex-Captain Arnold Jensen, Stephen Bradford and Joseph D'Antino.

The three heroes talk things over. Rad goes to the hospital and stops the attempted mob hit on the three kids. Ghosty talks to Tony Lucerno, who suspects that Nathan -- his opium supplier -- is trying to muscle in on his territory. Ghosty has until the next night to find out what's going on since Lucerno is going to throw a party for Nathan. Riff waits at the police station and gets more information.

The next day, the three talk to D'Antino. He tells them that his old buddies want to kill Nathan because his drugs caused the death of one of the boys in the old unit. At the Bradford place they rescue Mrs Bradford from some of Lucerno's boys, who are trying to find Bradford to talk to him. From the Mrs, they find out that Stephen is probably at his cabin.

Going to the cabin, the heroes find seven more men, practicing for a big hit on Nathan that they're going to pull off tonight. Before they can arrest the group, more mobsters show up and several people are wounded in the firefight. The heroes manage to capture everyone. Then it's off to Nathan's to have a little chat.

But once at Nathan's they find the FBI there, who tell the heroes to butt out of FBI official business. Miffed, the hereos continue their investigations. Nathan meets with a Japanese gentleman who gloats that with the men that Nathan has smuggled into Island City, a wave of sabotage will sweep through Hawaii. And then the FBI show up and arrest the man and his soldiers. Seeing things well in hand, the heroes depart.
