Encounter 2: I.C.U. Labs

"As you enter the lab building you pass an unconscious guard. It is
ominously quiet."
Two thugs are outside in the hallway acting as lookouts. Another thug
and the supervillains are inside the lab trashing it and searching for
information. After a few more minutes they will flee (using Traveller
if he's around). The lab is an L-shaped room with two entrances.
Clues
Detective or Perception at -1 CS
- 1 RAP - Supervillains have swollen needle-mark on
inner right forearm.
- 2 RAP - Papers have been burned.
- 3 RAP - Burnt piece of paper bearing the acronym
"ARC".
- 4 RAP - Destruction is very specific.
- 5 RAP - Pieces of destroyed vial. No other mention of
ARC anywhere.
Villains (note that villains fall into a coma if knocked unconscious)
- 1 RAP - Yeah, we were given the address to this place
and told to destroy some notes and vials. All the information came in a
mail package. We never saw our employer.
- 1/2 RAP - Specifically we were looking for any
mention of "ARC" on the notes and vials.
Thugs
- 1 RAP - We were only hired to stand guard. Never saw
the guy who hired the supers.

ICU
- High Connection - Virtually all information on the
Artic Research Center was destroyed. The office of Dr Illyen Svoboda,
head of ARC, was also ransacked.
- High (asking about ARC) - We have been disappointed
with the results from ARC. Dr Svoboda is on the fringes of science,
speculating on alien worlds and civilizations. He spent a lot of time
wandering around Siberia last year and took quite a chance funding his
expedition to the North Pole.
Police
- High Connection - Criminals are all low level hoods
who previously exhibited no super powers. They claim to have been
working freelance on this job.
- High (asking about ARC) - This guy Svoboda who is in
charge of the North Pole expedition, he was accused of "inhuman
experiments" a few years ago. His crew up there has no criminal
records, but then again we found no records at all for four of them.
Continuing
Adventure
If the heroes don't immediately decide to head for the ARC, ICU will
ask them to go there and investigate on their behalf. The University
will transportation to the North Pole. On their own, the heroes can
procure transportation from the Army (via Riff), arrange their own
transporation (Wealth Check 9), or think of another option.
