Cadet's Log (Before)

Cadet Garowin wants to take me to his favorite holonovel, "The Doom That Came to Korath", by the great Centaurian holo- programmer, Ralla'thain. Little known fact, but Ralla'thain followed this masterpiece with a holonovel adaptation of "Mortal Kombat: Barney vs Big Bird" -- yeah, like Big Bird would have a chance against the purple dinosaur. After that little fiasco Ralla'thain decided to retire, thus ending a promising career.
Garowin says that "Doom" is a horror/mystery story for one hero, the fair-haired Prince Korvos, heir to the throne of Korath. Garowin gets to play my trusty sidekick, Racius, and watch me try to solve the holonovel in less time than it took him. As if! It took him a week to find Fisherman's Wharf, beating his time should be kids-play.

Oops, I have to go get into costume. I'll write more after I finish the holonovel.

Cadet's Log (After)

Well, that was the scariest holonovel that I've ever been in. I highly recommend doing the whole thing all in one go, I can imagine that it wouldn't be nearly as chilling if the holonovel were run for only a couple of hours at a time. The effect with the arm was quite surprising, and the monster ate poor Racius (i.e. Cadet Garowin) in one bite, quite a gruesome sight. I think I'd rather be vaporized by a phaser than have my brain and guts splattered all over the room.

Unfortunately, the first time through I ended up killing everyone in a bloody orgy of destruction. But really it was the arm, although I do admit to a certain thrill when I killed Ionus. Darn, he was annoying. And the monster just doesn't want to be reasoned with, so much for that Starfleet training! I finally figured out that it was the arm; but you know me, I'm squeamish about pain, so I kept trying to find another solution until Garowin got fed up and took matters into his own hand.

We can't agree on who won the bet though. I figured it out faster than he did, but he technically finished the holonovel faster than I did. I guess we'll have to settle it the old- fashioned way: Parrises Squares.
