Today's episode involved just Krystal and Beltana. We started off with
a short teaser: a distress call from the USS Himori in the Neutral
Zone. They were lured in by a distress call and ambushed by three
Romulan war birds. The Himori is racing back to Federation space with
only the Discovery close enough to help.

The whole
point of the teaser is to see whether Krystal will cross the Neutral
Zone. If Venor and Jon had been here maybe there would have been a
fight, but for this I only wanted a decision. Krystal decided to bluff
her way through, warning the Romulans that continued pursuit would
force her to join the fray, with more Federation ships on the way. With
a good roll the Romulans decided to back off and Krystal earned the
gratitude of Captain Eliot Fanon of the Himori.
Then for the main adventure. The colony of Mariposa has an interesting
problem. Half the colony is composed of clones, derived from the
survivors of a crash- landing. The other half of the colony are
transplanted Bringloidi, descended from Irish stock and settled on
another world. That world's sun flared up and destroyed the Bringloid
world, but not before the USS Enterprise saved the Bringloidi and
brought them to Mariposa. The Mariposans suffer from replicative
fading, and their cloning technologies are no longer sufficient to keep
them going. With Bringloidi genetic stock, the Mariposans can save
their people and the Bringloidi get a home in the process.
But there have been problems. Mariposa wants to join the Federation but
they can't until they form a unified government. Negotiations have been
tedious and fruitless, with the Federation diplomat assigned to
Mariposa not being of much help. Commander Biff Argyle has asked for
help, with the Discovery being the nearest starship. Captain Potrikos
assigns Krystal and Beltana to go to Mariposa and solve its problems.
