Princess Theguis came out. "The woman is Alichza," she explained to Racius. "She's the wife of that peasant Ganiri that interrupted the coronation this morning."

"Do you think this was meant as some of warning to keep Ganiri silent?" asked Racius.

"I'm not sure, but I mean to find out," grimly declared the Princess. "See to the old woman sergeant, we're heading back to Castle Korath." And with that, Princess Theguis and Racius started riding back to the castle.

Chapter 11: A Blade for Morea

Back in Lord Korvos' room, the King and Morea had spent the time talking. Korvos felt that he could spend the rest of his life here, with her, just contently talking.

"How do you feel about your father?" he asked Morea. "I believe he wants to keep you away from me."

"He means well," she replied candidly. "I don't agree with the way he treats our people. But he does what he thinks is best."

"How does this curse work," started Korvos. "You are clearly intended to be my bride."

"I don't know," replied Morea with a little hesitation. "I feel in my heart that we are meant to be together. But I don't know if it's the curse or me."
Just then, Korvos heard a slight grating. Looking up, he caught the glint of a knife as it was flung at Morea from an assailant using a secret door. With lightning reflexes, Korvos pushed Morea out of the way, then charged after the assassin. The robed figure lead the King on a chase through the secret passageways of the castle, but was finally caught by the King.

"Who sent you?!?" demanded the King.

"Please, he said he'd kill me if I didn't do it!" babbled the would-be- assassin.

"Who!"

"Elmuth! Elmuth wanted the lady killed!"

With a snarl of rage, King Korvos dragged the man back to his room and handed him over to the guards.

"Are you all right?" he asked of Morea.

"Yes, a little frightened, but I'm fine," she answered.

"Stay here," he ordered. "I need to talk to my High Priest."
