The 8th Night (2021) [/] South Korean horror film. An outcast monk (Lee Sung-min) and his unwanted initiate (Nam Da-reum) have to stop a demon eye that possesses bodies, one per day, until the 8th night when it frees it's companion eye and the demon is awakened to end the world. But to stop the eyes the monk's plan is to murder one of the downstream victims (each day already has a pre-ordained victim) which eventually puts him at odds with the initiate who decides he wants to save the pretty non-speaking girl (Kim You-jung) who is the monk's final target. Also there's a police homicide detective (Park Hae-joon) trying to find the "serial killer" and thinks the monk has to be the killer...
This is a low gore film, getting by on suspense and cut-aways before real violence happens and then it picks up in the aftermath. There are a couple of twists to keep you guessing and a clever and satisfying ending.
Puyo Puyo Puzzle Pop (2024) [/] Apple Arcade Tetris-Match 3 combination that you can play with four players Tetris-battle style. There's a story mode with voiced characters (Puyo Puyo is a Sega game and this game does feel kind of console-like). Very polished production though personally not a fan of this type of game play.
Trader Joe's Indian Fare Kitchari [/] "mix of grains, veggies, and delicately savory seasonings" It's a bit more soupy than I expected but I guess you're supposed to eat it as is by itself. Had it with some white rice and it tastes ok but not that flavorful. 10 oz bag (1 serving) for $3. I'm hesitant to try their other Indian Fare packages.
Pretty Tough with Maria Sharapova (2026) [/] Former tennis champion Maria Sharapova has a new podcast where she interviews successful women (hence the name). I've listened to the first seven episodes and usually fairly interesting. Zoe Saldaña, Jeanie Buss, and Chelsea Handler were my favorite guests. Gabriela Hearst and Willow Bay I didn't know and were interesting. The other two less interesting but still ok episodes. The podcast is professionally done and has advertises so has a good chance of sticking around.
