Castle of Days is a compilation of two previous Gene Wolfe books and then new printed material.
I bought this book for the New Sun material which is background stuff and thoughts rather than fiction so I'd say I didn't need to buy it in the first place. Unfortunately I didn't really find this book all that interesting -- it's a lot of little bits and only some of the bits are interesting, mostly the others are ok, a few are boring.
- Book of Days (1981) - a collection of short stories keyed to various holidays. He intends you to read the story at that holiday and the story somehow reflects on that holiday. For the most part I only liked a few of the stories.
- Castle of the Otter (1992) - various essays about the Book of the New Sun series.
- Castle of Days - this part is essays about writers and writing, including letters to people, and reviews that Gene Wolfe has written or presented over the years many previously printed in magazines but not in book format.
