So far it's
been a bad day for me. The big thing is that I lost the folio of CDs
that I brought to listen on the road. Other than one CD I had in my CD
player, that's 47 CDs gone. I think what happened is that I had the
folio propped up against the door so I could get to it easily (because
the seat belt on Dad's car immediately locks and doesn't let you lean
forward). So when I opened the door to step out it must have fallen out
then. We looked around a bit but it's gone.
I'm not too upset about it, since I already have the CDs ripped into
iTunes. Losing my wallet or my backpack would have been much worse. The
CDs are worth about $700, so I'm not going to replace them soon. Next
road trip I'll have much less music to listen to. Maybe it's time for
an iPod so I can still listen to my favorite music on the road.
Alternatively, a car adapter for my PowerBook would be as good, though
much more unwieldy.

Just now I
stepped on my cellphone cord, where it connects to the phone. broke the
housing but after some experimenting, I can still recharge my phone.
Will have to be careful with the cord so it doesn't break too soon.
Again, it's something that happens so I try not to be upset.
Driving in California is different than other states. Other states have
mile markers and exits are marked by the mile marker -- a lot easier to
navigate if you're a tourist. California has border checkpoints to
check for fruit infestation -- I don't think any other state has
anything similar. California can close it's borders. Not completely,
but complete enough to be effective, if we ever had to do it.
