I didn't get a
chance to write a journal entry for Thursday. Let's see if I can even
remember... Oscar, Egbert, Cindy (Egbert's wife), and I went to Grouse
Mountain to climb it. A fairly tough hike of 3 km (1.8 miles) while
ascending 1 km (0.6 miles or 3100 feet). I went less than a quarter of
the way before I was spent and thought I was going to throw up. I went
back down and took the sky tram and met the others who did make it
(Oscar has done it several times, for the others it was their first
time). We ate at the Altitude Bar and then drove down to have coffee at
our favorite New Age Gallery and Coffee Shop.
Today we had lunch and ate way too much. On the way I found out that
Egbert and Cindy met on the Internet (Cindy is from Beijing). Guess
that bodes better for my relationship with Ya Lan (though Eric and Barb
also met on the Internet, they did date a lot before Eric proposed).
When you think about it, for me it is much akin to a mail order bride,
without going through a service.

Anyways, back
on topic. After lunch Oscar took a group of us on a tour. There were
Daniel and his cousin Larissa, whose grandmother Leticia is an old
friend of the Siu family. Maribella is married to Mario, a cousin of
the family (come to think of it, we're all cousins of one sort or
another) and she brought her daughter Melissa, age 4. We took a lot of
pictures and had gelato. It was a long trip. Oscar is quite good as a
host.
We ended up at Christina and Cesar's -- crisis central on the night
before the wedding. The phones (both lines) were almost always in use.
Still lots of preparations and people calling to talk or whatever.
Christina is definitely getting a bit frazzled. Cesar (last name
Baretta -- family is from Argentina), is not too bad. He's still
relatively calm, only a little more than 12 hours before the wedding
vows...
