Since Woo had
to cancel gaming I wasn't going to run BattleTech. With only half a day
of gaming I decided to take Kooma out to do stuff and visit
Christopher. First I had to mail some comics to a buyer in the UK. Then
I got an oil change for my car. Oil Changers seems to have cut back on
their extra and somewhat unnecessary services. There were also only two
people there which is a bit low.
Kooma and I went to lunch at La Piñata in Fremont. Apparently
part of the same chain as La Piñata in Alameda. But the one in
Fremont is new and shiny and respectable looking. I had a breakfast
omelet and it was pretty good. A lot of food.
We went to Half Price Books two doors down from La Piñata. The
store is about as big as the one in Concord. The one in Berkeley is
half the size if it's still in the same location as from my college
days. I bought some Star Trek books and Kooma bought a book.
Then we drove to Flying Colors where I bought a couple of Conan comics
books and Hellboy: Odd Jobs. I thought about buying some Girl Genius
comic books since there will be a GURPS sourcebook coming out. Then
again lots of things could happen and the sourcebook might be cancelled
so it's best to wait.
Went to the Half Price Books in Concord since we were nearby. There was
some sort of festival in the downtown plaza. Lots of custom cars,
music, people selling wares and food. I couldn't tell what it was for
but it make parking a little less than trivial. We went to the new
parking garage that they built when I was living in Concord. Kind of
cramped in there.

At Half Price
Books I found a bonanza of Star Trek books. I bought like 35 books for
$150, including some hardcover books. Now, I'm buying hardcover books
for the price of a paperback book when I could lay off and look for the
used paperback book. Normally I don't care about book format --
paperback books are just as good as hardcover books to me.
But then again the used paperbacks I buy from Powell's cost the same as
new books, so paying new paperback book prices for hardcover books
seems fine to me. And the books are there now so it was too hard to
pass up. Almost bought Star Trek TNG Enterprise blueprints but it was
on top of the shelf and I couldn't reach it.
After the buying spree we drove to Davis and visited Christopher. First
we went to a local movie theatre to watch Shark Tale. The story is only so-so
but it had so hilarious bits which made me laugh. And I love talking
sharks.
We ate dinner at Hunan's, which Christopher claims as the best Chinese
restaurant in Davis. It was pretty good. I ordered the Hunan Crispy
Chicken and Christopher the Crispy Honey Walnut Shrimp. Kooma orderd
some sort of tofu dish. We also had the Dragon Soup. Strangely they
bring out a bowl of soup, pour out your cups, then take the bowl away.
But then again it's priced that way.
Christopher wanted to go to mom and dad's to pick up his Social
Security card but Kooma convinced him not to. Apparently she'd feel
obliged to say hi and didn't want to just pop in unannounced. Whatever.
