I watched the
last three innings as the Boston Red Sox defeated the St Louis
Cardinals to win their first World Series since 1918. It's really nice
since they haven't won it in such a long time and there's a certain
mythic-like quality to their non-World Series streak. Still, the
celebration is more or less the same as any other championship team.
I didn't make any NFL picks in Week 7 because I was busy deciding what
to vote for in this year's elections. In Week 6 I went 3-1 bringing up
my record to 6-15. Alas, the 49ers had a good start and didn't score
afterwards to lose, which I picked them to do but I would have been
happier if they had won.
1. Giants (4-2) at Vikings (5-1). Minnesota has a 4-game winning streak
while New York is coming off a loss. The Vikings have a solid offense
against the Giant's fairly good defense. Still, the Vikings should win
this game.
2. Raiders (2-5) at Chargers (4-3). Oakland is having another
disappointing year, not living up to expectations. Not a surprise. San
Diego on the other hand is doing fairly well which is a surprise. I
think the Chargers hold court and drive the Raider losing streak to 5
games.
3. 49ers (1-5) at Bears (1-5). Unfortunately San Francisco is about
where people expected them to be. Chicago is a bit of a surprise
because I thought they were supposed to be better than this. It's a
toss up so I'll go with my hometown 49ers.
4. Dolphins (1-6) vs Jets (5-1). What happened to the Fish, who finally
won a game last win? Even with that lift, Jets should win this game.

I bought a
bunch of presents for Dave and Julie and RJ. I didn't get them anything
last year nor this year for their birthdays and they keep getting me
stuff. And after DaveCon I thought a thank-you gift to Julie would be
good. And as long as I'm buying Julie something I might as well buy
some small gifts that I've been meaning to buy for Dave.
Actually I only got Julie and RJ a $100 gift certificate from
Amazon.com. I may not like them but they do have a wide variety of
things for sale. For Dave I bought four items: Clerks 10th Anniversary
Edition because it's one of his favorite movies, The Gamers DVD which
is a fan=produced role-playing type movie like what Dave did, Radius
DVD which is a 30-minute film with lots of how-to documentaries, and
the book Spike, Mike, Slackers and Dykes by John Pierson -- I guess the
set makes up part of an independent filmmaker wannabe's library.
The book is about the independent film industry from about 1984 to 1994
or so as told from Pierson's perspective as a producer and general
inside guy. I received the book today and I want to read it before
giving it to Dave because (a) I want to read it and (b) I doubt I'll be
borrowing it from Dave. I've probably already spent a good 6 hours
reading it and I'm 2/3rds of the way done. Too bad I got no work done
today.
I finally finished archiving the Pyramid articles as well as the d20
Weekly articles. Thought about the old Roleplayer and Autoduel
Quarterly articles but they're not in as good an html format and/or not
as complete. Looking at Pyramid, the web version is ok but I'm not sure
it's better than the print version. The article quality at times
matches the print version but usually does not. Oh well, this is what
we have now so I guess have to live with it.
