Out of Season is a plodding independent film about a lesbian romance. Micki (Carol Monda) is sort of a punk girl drifter who hasn't had any luck in her relationships. She goes back home to take care of her uncle Charlie (Dennis Fecteau) who is dying of cancer. Micki meets an older woman, Roberta (Joy Kelly), an is immediately attracted to Roberta.

Micki spends a lot of time pursuing Roberta. They start dating and there's some friction between the two of them. It mostly seems to be Roberta not wanting to take the chance and Micki saying "go for it!" It's only when Micki starts understanding Roberta's background that they finally compromise and drive off happily ever after.

I've always said that a good independent film has to rely on the story and dialogue. You won't have good production values. You won't have good special effects. You won't have good actors. Story is really the only thing you can do well without pouring a lot of money into it.

Frankly, this movie has a boring story. It's 100 minutes of nothing much going on. I suppose you get more character moments this way but it makes the story meander. Overall I didn't really enjoy watching this film.
