Feature

Cube 2: Hypercube is the sequel to Cube, an intriguing Canadian horror thriller. In the original a group of people found themselves trapped in the cube, a structure composed of square rooms with doors on all six sides, and killer traps scattered throughout. There is a puzzle here, one whose solution helps the group make their way to the exit, where only one person survives to make it out.

Hypercube continues the formula. A group of people are in the cube. They don't know how they got there or how to get out. This time the traps are different and the cube is different. Not only does it include the standard 3-dimensions, but it also has a time component as well. The mystery is still to figure why they are trapped in the hypercube and how to get out.
I didn't like this movie as much as the first one. The mystery's solution seems to fall into their lap. There is the usual character infighting and relevations. And the acting is fairly good. The special effects are not that great and there is more CGI than in the first movie. The ending really sucked. The first movie at least had a ray of hope in that one person made it out. In the sequel -- well none of the group lives to the credits.

Actors

Lots of people I've never heard of.

DVD

There is a 35-minute behind the scenes talking about the special effects. There is also a trailer and some production pictures. The deleted scenes are for the most part already in the movie as far as I could tell. The commentary track has producer and co-writer Ernie Barbarash with picture editor Mark Sanders. Fairly informative but not that interesting. I guess I want to know more about the people than the film-making process.

Recommendations

If you liked the first movie you may be interested in this sequel. Otherwise it's not a movie I'd recommend.
