Bonanza Declares Independence

The Bonanza Independent Government declared that city's
independence from the rest of Altair earlier this month. BIG
troops have established martial law to "protect the freedom-
loving citizens from the reprisals that will certainly come
from the Despotic Duchess of Altair". Lord Muirvald Cooke
has been elected interim President until general elections
can be held.
Already, Royal troops have clashed with the rebel forces,
resulting in two surprising victories for the upstart movement.
BIG armor successfully liberated the city from the Altairan
occupation garrison stationed there. Further BIG strikes
destroyed several supply dumps that the Royal forces had
established to support their operations against the rebels.
Lord Cooke has assured Colonel Kuo Itekada of the 18th Dieron
Regulars that the current dispute will not interrupt shipments
from the Long Life Company factories on Bonanza. As a precaution,
the 18th Dieron has deployed its First Battalion in parts of
Bonanza to "insure the free flow of goods in to and out of the
city". Colonel Itekada seems content to let this internal matter
be resolved by the parties involved.
Crucis Lancers Arrive on Mira

The roar of an approaching dropship signalled the arrival of yet
another cargo shipment of Mechs, supplies and troops that have
arrived on the quiet world of Mira. Davion planners have denoted
this humid planet as the base for the Crucis Lancers in the
upcoming Galahad Games to be held this August. Already three
Lancer regiments have arrived, with the other two regiments
enroute and due to arrive next month.
"This is an historic occassion," proclaimed Lieutenant Bernard
Stillwell, from the AFFC Public Relations Office. "For the first
time in almost seven decades, all five Lancer regiments will be
operating from one base. Truly, this is a special event."
Apparently, the Capellan Confederation does not agree with Lt.
Stillwell. Only three days ago, the Lancers defeated a battalion-
strength Liao raiding force from the 2nd Kearny Highlanders.
Loses were heavy for the Liao raiders, who could not have forseen
taking on three elite Mech regiments with one battalion.

Lyran Galahad Preparations

In preparation for August's Operation Galahad, the Lyran Common-
wealth Armed Forces have started a series of maneuvers to hone
the troops that will participate in Galahad. The woefully
disappointing performance of the LCAF in last year's Galahad
prompted the Archon to instigate this series of preparatory
exercises.
"Obviously, the LCAF needs more work to integrate the troops of
the various regions into a creditable force," explained General
Nondi Steiner of the LCAF. "We can't have the Skye troops and
the Tamar troops going off on their own again. They have to learn
to work as part of a larger operation."
Lady Margaret Aten, Duchess of Skye, responded that the Skye
troops do not require the practice. "What is the use of these
expensive and dangerous games?" asked the Duchess. "We all know
that if the Commonwealth is invaded, Donegal and Tamar will look
after their own concerns first and leave us to our own defenses.
Better to spend the money on reinforcing the defenses of our
vulnerable region."
EarthWerks Discloses System Problem

EarthWerks Limited, a major manufacturer of Mechs, sent out an
advisory to all owners of Mechs equipped with the EarthWerks
HTG-4M LRM System. The missile system, which EarthWerks began
introducing into its Mechs three years ago, has been found to
jam on certain occassions.
"EarthWerks should not just warn users, but recall all Mechs
that use the system," asserted Dayle Horotvitz of the Capellan
Bureau of Safety. "Once the missiles jam, the next firing will
detonate them and rip the Mech apart. Clearly a danger to the
safety of our courageous pilots."
Mara Chin, Vice President of Public Relations at EarthWerks,
sees no reason to recall the hundreds of BattleMechs equipped
with the HTG-4M. "Our tests have shown that only under highly
unusual circumstances will the missiles jam in such a volatile
matter," said Chin at a press conference. "EarthWerks is working
on a software patch to solve the problem. We anticipate sending
it out to all of our customers within the next three months."
