Rebel Forces Hard Pressed in Bonanza

The Rebel Bonanza Independent Government has lost half of the
city to Royal Altairan Troops in heavy fighting over the whole
month. A RAT lightning raid liberated 300 political prisoners
from BIG. Meanwhile, RAT launched a 5 regiment offensive --
mostly composed of Altairan militia called up for the duration
of the emergency -- which pushed the BIG troops back to the
Central Quarter of Bonanza.
"We have the rebels on the run," claimed Colonel Darla Kamezcky
of the 3rd Altairan Militia. "They don't have anything that can
hold up against the Royal Mechs or the 1st ACR [Armored Cavalry
Regiment]. All we have to do is come in and mop up the scattered
survivors."
The rebels have barely been able to hold the Central Quarter,
which is protected by 18-foot stone walls topped by pillboxes.
Bonanza citizens in the liberated sections have come out to
cheer the RATs, which has inadvertantly slowed down the Altairan
offensive.

Archon-Designate Melissa Steiner, accompanied by the Archon,
departed Tharkad for Terra. The two will travel via a Command
Circuit to arrive on Terra a week before the scheduled wedding
next month. A detachment of the 1st Royal Guards is providing
security for the Royal Family.
Meanwhile, the Lyran Galahad excercises are scheduled to end
later this month. "It's about time," said an exasperated Lady
Margaret Aten, Duchess of Skye. "Those LCAF bumblers have been
trampling all over the countryside and laying waste to dozens
of square miles of land on four worlds of the Federation."

Representatives from The Elysian Fields were onhand as Hendrik
Grimm announced that the trio of worlds will become a special
Protectorate of the Oberon Confederation. "The peaceful and
defenseless inhabitants of Ellisa, Manaringaine, and Nyserta have
petitioned for protection for their worlds. As the largest and
most stable nation in this region of space, it is our duty to
protect the weaker nations from the depradations of the more
unsavory elements of our community."
In return for various foodstuffs and raw metals and minerals,
the Elysian Fields will host anywhere from one to two battalions
of Confederation Mechs. With the pirates of Helmar Valasek only
one jump away, the military aid comes at a good time.
"We have tried to deal with Valasek peacefully," said Warden
Akir Dobuguq, head of the Elysian Fields. "But his pirates have
continued to loot and pillage our cities. We are a nonviolent
peoples and so welcome the aid of the Oberon Confederation."

After three years of intensive repairs, the Jumpship and Dropship
yards of Kathil are back in full operation. The shipyards were
severely damaged by McCarron's Armored Cavalry when the Liao
mercenaries rampaged through the Capellan March a few years ago.
"The three years of repair have also given us the opportunity to
install space-based defensive systems to protect the orbital
shipyards," explained His Grace Koster VanLees, Duke of Kathil.
"It'll make the next raiders think twice about actually attacking
this magnificent piece of lostech."
