Encounter 0: Prelude
All
"America has been plunged into The War. In the wake of the Japanese
Attack on Pearl Harbor, Congress declared war on Japan, shortly
followed by declaring war on Germany and the other Axis Powers.
President Roosevelt has called on all meta-humans to come to their
country's aid. America's heroes have been called upon to join the
fledging All-Star Squadron, an umbrella organization whose aim is to
coordinate the disparate hero and hero groups."
At this point ask each player if their character joins the All-Star
Squadron. Joining the All-Star Squadron is a 1/2 Misc Award.
Encounter 1: Crime Scene Investigations
All
"One month later and things have quieted down. Although all the people
in Hawaii expected an invasion following the crippling of the Pacific
Fleet, nothing has materialized. A sense of danger is still in the air,
but the good citizens have more or less gone back to their normal day
to day worries. Even for you heroes it's been boring on the Pacific
Front."

John Gilmore and Ghost Girl
John: "You are in your office finishing up the notes of the last case
-- a most unusual mystery involving a Rabbi, a Priest, and a Risus
Monkey, when your secretary walks in and says that there's a couple
wanting to see you. In walk Stanislaus Bridge, Millionaire Playboy and
perhaps the richest man in Hawaii, along with his current plaything,
debutante Sandra Knight of the West Coast Knights. It looks like
Sandra's been crying."
"'Are you John Gilmore, PI?' he asks." (John's player can reply or
not). "I've come to you because of your reputation for solving unusual
cases with the utmost discretion. One of my friends, Hollis Mason, was
abducted this morning from his home. At about the same time, Sally
Jupiter, a dear friend of Sandra's family, was also kidnapped. I
believe there is a connection there, but so far the police have been no
help. Apparently there's been a rash of kidnappings and they're quite
shorthanded at the moment."
"I need you to find them, as soon as possible, quietly and without
drawing the media's attention. Heaven knows that I don't need the
publicity, which would probably only anger the kidnappers. I'm sure
they've been taken hostage, probably in an attempt to demand a ransom
from Sandra and I. I'm prepared to pay you double your rate if you make
this case a top priority."
At this point John can accept or decline the case. If he declines then
Bridge will offer triple or quadruple the usual rate, though that is as
high as he will go. If John still declines then the adventure is
probably over for him. Should John question Bridge and Knight, he will
get the address of both victims. They know very little else.
