Encounter 2 (Part 1): The Previous Accidents

Ghost Girl

"Water World is strangely gloomy. The rides are ready, everything looks freshly painted, the smell and sounds of animals are faint but noticeable. But with only workers getting ready, the park is eerily empty and lonely. Head Dolphin Trainer Carlotta Gucci meets you at the park entrance to show you around."

Carlotta tries to be prim and businesslike, though she will get lots going to each accident site. If she is engaged in conversation, she may reveal that she has no idea why anybody would try to hurt people in order to force Christine to take over her job, especially since Christine is such a nice girl. This is a piece of information that Andre told Carlotta but she wasn't supposed to tell anyone else.

The first accident occurred at The Boomerang (#93) coaster. Two workers were conducting a test run when their car flew off the tracks and into a nearby pond. Luckily they were not seriously hurt. Later investigations revealed that part of the track was missing, which is strange since they had run a walk-through before doing the test run.

Detective vs OV/RV 5/5:
  • 1 RAP (roll 10): From the bends in the metal, looks like the pieces of track were wrenched away, possibly by a strong man with a crowbar, though that would normally take a minute or two.
  • 3 RAPs (roll 12): You find a piece of clothing, like from a suit, colored black.
  • 5 RAPs (roll 17): You find some footprints on the ground. Looks like a man wearing good dress shoes. Strange you are sure there are no signs of this man climbing or walking to the place where the track was damaged.
On the way to the second accident, they will pass one of the many pools in Water World. A dolphin will greet Carlotta who will say "Hi Flipper!" and introduce Penelope.

The second accident took place at the 'Round the World (#32). A group of workers was walking by when the whole thing came off it's mooring and fell crashing down amidst the workers. It's a miracle nobody was hurt. A replacement will arrive next week and the ride will be fixed in time for the park grand opening.

Detective vs OV/RV 5/5:
  • 1 RAP (roll 10): Looks like it was sabotaged, the mooring being but by something, after that it would only be a few minutes before the whole thing came crashing down.
  • 3 RAPs (roll 12): Actually, there was a device attached to the mooring. You can't tell what it was for.
  • 5 RAPs (roll 17): The device was some sort of remote controlled dispenser. A strong acid was used to cut through the mooring. Someone skilled in Demolitions knew what they were doing.
