555/2/70. It's
time for us to resume our journey. These last few weeks have been fun;
a refreshing change from trying to save the world that I know and love.
Doing some good for once, instead of randomly destroying and killing
and subverting innocent children. Lord Iitee now rules this land, from
all indications a just man. But no matter, we'll soon be out of these
lands and on our way; perhaps never to return again.
Before we left though, there were rewards to bestow. For our heroic aid
in defeating Lord Phad we were given spells and rune magic. I myself,
since Dak Alaran had deigned to help me when I DI'ed, was offered a
Heal/6. Not being a fool, I took it immediately, even though I can't
cast it yet. But my POW will recover soon enough. Meanwhile I've told
the others that I got a Heal/1 from Dak Alaran, which is true enough
since that is what I got from the DI. I'm afraid that they'll abuse the
Heal/6 to heal them so they can go around killing even more people than
they have.
As we were leaving some Vikul showed up and asked to join our party.
"Reg's the name, Slinging's my game," he rhymed as he hefted a sling.
Nakaro took an immediate liking to Reg, probably because that lizard is
infatuated with missile weapons (I think that he wants us all to be
missile men so he will be only hand-to-hand fighter). The rest of us
were more skeptical. But Reg insists he has the PC glow, and it's not
like NPCs would know about that in the first place. So we let him in.
A bit of a humorous situation cropped up. As we were heading out of
town, Captain Tanarek Dell and my old squad caught up with us again.
But he looked different, disdaining armor and almost all clothing for
that matter. The rest of the squad didn't look much better -- a ragged
and odd assortment of armors predominated. Dell immediately tried to
arrest us while Nakaro calmly tried to incite a fight. The ruckus
brought some town guards, who escorted us all to see Lord Iitee.
Once we were all gathered in the main courtroom, it became obvious that
Captain Dell had gone crazy. We had ruined his career. He had been
kicked out of the Cold Army. Revenge was the only thing on his mind.
Why the rest of the squad followed him, I don't know. That's loyalty I
guess. Captain Dell challenged us to single combat. Luckily, the
animals were docile that morning so none of us answered his challenge.
Dell then proceeded to insult Lord Iitee, who had Dell and the rest
thrown in jail for a few days. Then Lord Iitee, looking disappointed at
our brazen act of cowardice, told us to leave.

555/2/74. For
the past couple of nights we've all been having bad
dreams. Not quite nightmares, except for Tok. He says that he dreamed
of a castle made of crystal. On a high tower, a large metal-clad figure
sat on a throne of bone, looking out a window. The figure turned its
head to look at Tok, and Tok saw that the figure had no face, just a
blackness as dark as pitch. Then Tok woke up.
Meanwhile, Tok has also spotted a strange mist during his watches. It
starts out slowly, then thickens and slowly coalesces. Each time he
wakes either Reg or I, the other two people who can see in the dark. We
go to check it out but the mist dissipates as we reach it. It's
obviously something evil and we can't just keep doing this forever. So
tonight we'll let it form all the way. Even though I know it's evil, I
can't help that I'm excited. Like getting a present for your birthday...
Oh heck, it was just a monster. Tough one two. Big and mean with lots
of tentacles. It froze our weapons and almost broke them, destroyed
armor and crippled Krelga. We hit it and hit it and kept on hitting it
but it just would not die. And then Timroth set it on fire and it died.
Krelga won't be able to use that arm for at least a week. I feel bad
since I can heal her, but this way she'll stay out of trouble.
555/3/01. Stopping at a Care Bear valley. They refused to admit Krelga,
so we sent her around with Tev -- we need the information and supplies
form the bears. They didn't have much to say, though they did give us
some more tidbits that will help us find the lake of fire. Mount Xargar
is where we should be heading.
555/3/02. Rejoined Tev and Krelga. They gave us a parchment with
writing that Krelga had copied from an ancient stone they stumbled
across. Other than that they remained strangely silent about their
little excursion. Nobody can read the writing, though Nakaro opined
that it was ancient Higvulian. Sometimes I can't tell when he's kidding.
555/3/03. Found a ruined temple or building of some kind. Trapped
underneath a section of ceiling was a Vikul skeleton. It was holding a
lead scroll case. We opened it and found a map of some kind. Once
again, we can't read it. This time Nakaro thought it the writing might
be ancient Zorelian. Heck, I don't even know what a Zorel looks like,
though Nakaro claimed that they were an ancient and noble race from
before the Ice Age. Like there was anything before the Ice Age! What a
comedian! |
