Recap
The first episode of the season went off relatively well. I started the
session with my new subplot mechanism, as each of the four characters
were introduced to their departments. John got an assignment to create
some sort of morale raising activity, to which Dave came up with the
unrealistic Discovery Games concept. The unrealistic part being that
it's going to involve many ships communicating via subspace and
participating via the holodeck. The communication part is pretty much
impossible, as you're quite unlikely to be within "real-time" talking
distance to more than a couple of ships. But what the hey, at least
he's trying.
Gonar came back from a two-month vacation to find engineering a mess.
Half of his department was promoted/transferred out. Unfortunately it
was the competent half. He stormed in and verbally abused his
department then set them to work getting everything back into shape,
doing most of the work himself.
Clancy is now department head to a not very good but supercilious group
of scientists. He's being very touchy-feely, setting up meetings and
motivational activities. Clancy is also working with John to make some
of the competitions at the Discovery Games appeal to cerebral
crewmembers.
