Gonar grunted.
"Fine engineer you not be. Good craftsmanship you not determine." Gonar
picked up the RPC and proceeded to humph and haw over it. Finally he
put it down: "Working part it is. Pay Fuzzy you should."
"200 credits? You sure about this Gonar?"
"Sure am I. As sure as you be Betazoid."
Krystal and Gonar entered Danger Base, Krystal carrying the RPC.
"Explain to me again why I had to carry this?" queried Krys.
"Enlightened society this is. Females share in work. And muscles you
need."
"About time you guys got back," said Jon as he ran down the stairs.
"Listen, I need Gonar to help on a little project before tonight's
lecture. You two can work on the Containment Unit and we'll see you
tonight." With that, Jon and Gonar were out the door, leaving Serin and
Krystal nonplussed.
"What was that all about?" asked Krystal.
"Cadet Cabote declined to tell me," replied Serin. "I am afraid I do
not have time to work on the Containment Unit today. I must prepare to
take Arsula to the lecture."

"Oh ho! Our
Vulcan actually preparing for a date, eh?" teased Krys. "So how is your
sweetheart."
"We are only acquaintances," explained Serin, refusing to take the
bait. "She is... Vulcan."
"I see... Anyway, I suppose I can get ready for the lecture myself. Tom
got front ticket seats."
"Perhaps you should be more careful with Cadet Paris. He has a
certain... reputation. I am concerned that you have been seeing him
every night since you first dated."
"I'm a big girl now 'dad'. I can take care of myself. You should be
more worried about Jon dating Katrina Ray. She's a dangerous person."
"I do not understand why you and Cadet Ray do not get along. Was she
not your roommate last year?"
"That's part of the problem. It's a long story and maybe someday I'll
tell it around the campfire. We better go get ready for tonight."
It was a cold Autumn night. Let's face it, even with a good amount of
weather control, it still gets cold in San Francisco. Krystal was with
Tom, Jon with Katrina, Gonar with Loraleth, and Serin with Arsula.
Somehow each couple managed to sit together, although in various parts
of the auditorium. True to his word (and it helps having a Starfleet
Admiral for a father), Cadet Paris had excellent seats for the lecture.
