"This last
piece," began Professor Moltross, a Centauran, as he unveiled what
looked to be a stone, stylized head, "is a Digralan Omphalos. We found
it in the ruins of a collapsed temple, somehow escaping damage by the
fortuitous placement of a couple of fallen support columns which
shielded the Omphalos.
"That's one unappealing piece of art," whispered Tom to Krystal.
"Hush Tom, you should learn to appreciate other cultures."
"Hey, I'm just going with my gut feelings."
A few rows away, Jon couldn't help giggling.
"Would you stop making so much noise? I can't hear the Professor,"
complained Katrina.
"I can't help it," replied Jon. "There's a little surprise that Gonar
and I set up for after the lecture."
"Whatever. Why don't you go make yourself useful and get me a drink of
water?"
"Yes ma'am."
Another few rows away...
"Why bring umbrella? Rain it will not tonight," asked Loraleth.
"Expect rain of different sort," cryptically answered Gonar.

Still farther
away...
"Excellent lecture," commented Serin.
"It is," agreed Arsula.
Lecture over, Tom and Krystal struggled patiently with the rest of the
crowd as everyone tried to leave at the same time.
"What's going on up there?" asked Krystal to Jon.
"You'll see," replied Jon with a grin.
"Where's your date?"
"I think she went the other way. Katrina doesn't like you."
Once at the entrance, a strange sight was to be seen. Dollops of food
were all over the front courtyard, as some cadets tried to run through
the hail of falling objects that rained down from above. Only Gonar
seemed to be prepared, as he calmly escorted Loraleth with his umbrella.
"What in the Nine Rings..." wondered Krystal.
"Those look like donuts," observed Tom.
"Glazed jelly donuts, to be precise," claimed Jon. "Isn't it cool?"
"I got to hand it to whomever did this. Quite an original feat,"
complimented Krys. "Of course, if they were caught they'd be expelled
from the Academy."
