"Of course," agreed Jon. "But what an excellent Higelian protest against the screaming void of the universe."

Krystal could only stare at Jon.

It was the next day that the first victim was discovered. Krystal and her squadmates rushed to the infirmary after an urgent call for Gonar. Once there they found Loraleth lying on a medbay.

"What happened?" asked Gonar anxiously.

"Not sure," answered Loraleth. "Woke up, couldn't move. Very afraid. Still paralyzed. Still afraid."

"What caused this?" inquired Krystal to the attending doctor.

"We're not too sure Miss. There is a foreign enzyme in her body. We believe it is causing the paralysis, although we don't know how it was introduced into her body."

A Benzite Starfleet Security officer entered the room and walked up to Gonar: "Are you Cadet Gonar?"

"Yes."

"I'm Detective Fale Harskee. I have a few questions to ask you. If you step this way?" Harskee took Gonar into the next room.

"You didn't see anything?" asked Krystal to Loraleth.
"Nothing."

"We should get back and finish the Warp Field Containment Unit," interrupted Serin.

"Have you no heart?" asked Jon to the stoic Vulcan. "Can't you see she's in pain? Maybe I can comfort her."

"Wait a minute Romeo," said Krys as she grabbed Jon before he did something embarrassing. "Let's leave her alone. Gonar can stay with her."

Once back at Danger Base, the remaining trio took a look at their project. "It is still quite unfinished," observed Serin.

"Always the master of the understatement," said Krys. "Well, I guess we better start with the Resonating Particle Catalyst."

Just then the door beeped. Jon answered the door and found a Grazerite Security Officer. "Good day," he began. "I'm Detective Mel Skutchingson. Can I ask you and your squad a few questions?"

"Sure," replied Jon as he backed away, surreptitiously looking for another exit.

"I don't know anything about what happened at the lecture," began Krystal.

"Excuse me?" said Mel.
