"Join us, King
Korvos," commanded the monster. "You are destined, the same as your
ancestors since Karos made his pact."
"I'll never join you!" finally yelled the King.
"We shall see, once your lady love is dead," threatened the voice as it
faded away.
"Ok, I'm scared now," commented Racius.
Chapter 14: The Thing in the Dungeon
As the trio looked at the dead body of Elmuth. A scream echoed from
somewhere deep in the castle.
"Morea!" cried Korvos, recognizing the scream.
Following the cries of Morea, the trio descended deeper into the
castle, into a part that was not even kept lit with torches. Holding
their own light, the three stepped into an old dungeon. The stone walls
were caked with dried blood and adorned with dozens of torture
implements. A brazier filled with glowing red coals, brought a dullish
evil glow to the whole ensemble. A rack, an iron maiden, even a
guillotine stood ready to be used once again.
Morea was chained to a wall, the mass of evil using a tentacle to wave
a hot branding iron in front of her face. On seeing her, Korvos
immediately drew his rapier and attacked, quickly followed by his
companions. But their blows had no effect, as the monster struck down
Racius.

"Race!" cried
Theguis. "If he's dead you'll pay for this!" she threatened as she
pushed the brazier of coals on top of the monster.
"Your friends can't help you," whispered the monster to King Korvos as
it whipped a tentacle at Theguis, flinging her into the wall and
knocking her out. "Join us."
"Never!" defiantly declared Korvos.
"Then you, your lady love, and your friends will all die!"
As the monster said this, Korvos could once again feel his arm starting
to take a life of its own. Spotting the guillotine, Korvos knew there
was only one way left.
"You want the Sword Arm of Korath?" he said as he backed up to the
guillotine. "Here it is!" And with that he stuck his arm on the
guillotine and pulled the cord.
"Noooo!" yelled the beast as Korvos' arm was severed. The beast
exploded in a shower of ichor as Korvos fell unconscious.
