Humble Bundle Spring Sale
Apr 29 2021
I'm browsing the Humble Bundle Spring Sale and seeing what's interesting. Their search filtering is not too bad though they don't differentiate 32-bit and 64-bit macOS apps.
Concealed Intent ($1.64) - Turn based (with simultaneous resolution) stealth space tactical combat game. Two players or single player vs AI with a 17-mission campaign.
Survivor Squad ($0.59) - Top down action game. You control individual members of a squad as they explore an apocalyptic indoor area. Key here is that each person has a field of view so you have to more carefully to ensure you don't get jumped from an unmonitored direction.
Cosmic Express ($2.99) - In each 8 x 10 (or so) level draw a train track path from beginning to end such that the train can pick up all passengers and avoid obstacles. Cute graphics.
I notice that Steam now has a lot of GOG-style old games (that use DOS Box or other emulator).

Bundle of Holding - Dusk City Outlaws
Apr 27 2021
Dusk City Outlaws is a game where PCs do underworld jobs in a fantasy big city. The bundle looks to be every product for the line except the alternate setting Neon City Outlaws. At first glance the adventures seem to be about 5 pages long so $4 or $5 is quite a bit. But since the bundle is $20 for $88 of products that's still a good price. This is a game that uses card decks so less useful in PDF format.

- Gloomhaven. We attacked a small cultist outpost. One hour break while DS had a boy scouts conference call and then CSr had to leave early (because Corina and CJr ran the EV's battery very low). We have one room left (of three) and should be able to do it even if DS is out of cards.
Sun Apr 18 2021
Sleep 0630 to 1400. (7-1/2 hours)
- This month using up my free over-the-cap grace month watching lots of Paramount+ content.
Mon Apr 19 2021
Sleep 0600 to 1200. (6 hours)
- Alex Smith announced his retirement with a heartfelt video.
Tue Apr 20 2021
Sleep 0130 to 0330, 0430 to 1130. (9 hours)
- Looks like my Star Fleet Timelines fleet is breaking up with some core players leaving for more active fleets. I can finally leave my fleet and quit the game without feeling I'm letting my teammates down.
Wed Apr 21 2021
Sleep 0230 to 1030. (8 hours)
- Monday is HOA Annual Meeting. I'll most likely be voted to the board since there are two open spots and two running candidates.
Thu Apr 22 2021
Sleep 0300 to 10:00. (7 hours)
- Got to see the survey results and five people would rather not have Sonic install their lines. I think four can be turned around if we give them more information (two were rather paranoid about COVID-19 and two thought that would mean they couldn't continue with Comcast/Xfinity).
- Sonic would like to install in all units. I assume so that they don't have to come back later to do it and maybe installing in some units requires running a line through another unit, so it complicates matters.
Fri Apr 23 2021
Sleep 0200 to 1000. (8 hours)
- Working for a week on what was a simple sql upgrade script but get a group of developers working on the same script template and you get a fairly complicated script whose whole purpose is to run one alter index command -- complexity is all about which index and whether or not to run it when it's run on any given database.
Bundle of Holding - DCC Lankhmar

Bundle of Holding - Dungeon Crawl Classics
Apr 20 2021
Bundle of Holding's Dungeon Crawl Classics bundle is a typical BoH sized bundle though pales in comparison to Humble Bundle which for $15 included all the below, minus Black Heart of Thakulon, but plus another 20-odd adventures. Still $30 is a good price for BoH's offering but obviously not for me since I already own almost all of it.
Dungeon Crawl Classics RPG ($25)
DCC Judge's Screen ($6)
The Black Heart of Thakulon the Undying ($14)
#67 Sailors on the Starless Sea ($7)

Sleep 0530 to 1230. (7 hours)
- Blue Planet: Recontact KS
- Tried to install Steam version of Ronin (for Windows) on CrossOver and got it to start and go into intro screen. But gets stuck loading level and then quits. GOG version doesn't even show the intro screen.
Mon Apr 12 2021
Sleep 05:00 to 07:00. (7 hours)
- I forgot about my Mac mini. Ronin runs fine there and even with Apple Remote Desktop (I think VNC protocol) it's fairly smooth animation (luckily this is turn-based combat so everything stops while you're planning your next move). And although ARD (and I think VNC) does not do audio the Mac mini is close enough that I can pair it with my Beats Studio 3 headphones.
- So an ok solution. Drawbacks: can't play while using work VPN and can't listen to audio on my MBP and Mac mini at the same time.
Tue Apr 13 2021
Sleep 03:15 to 11:15. (8 hours)
- Doing a customer support call. It's interesting how little information we want to give away. Just fix their problem and don't talk about related bugs or limitations if they haven't run into them. Then again, extraneous information is usually confusing for no good reason.
Wed Apr 14 2021
Sleep 0330 to 1130. (8 hours)
- Christopher signed me up for a COVID-19 vaccine appointment at Bay Point (Contra Costa County).
Thu Apr 15 2021
Sleep 0200 to 0815. 1300 to 1600. (9-1/4 hours)
- Dad's birthday. I remembered in the morning but thought it was too early. Then forgot until 2130 and gave him a call then.
Fri Apr 16 2021
Sleep 0500 to 1130. (6-1/2 hours)
- Got KFC.
- Was taking a day off but got stuck with an assignment.

Bundle of Holding - Coriolis and Tales from the Loop
Apr 13 2021
The first bundle ($26) was a combination of Coriolis RPG and Tales from the Loop RPG and it seemed a bit too scattered to be interesting.

Coriolis: The Dying Ship ($10)
Coriolis GM Screen ($0)

This is pretty much all currently released products except for Mercy of the Icons Part 2: The Last Cyclade. $190 of product for $52.
I think I will buy them.

- I registered to the IRS web site so I can start downloading my tax returns (Steph does them for me so I never get the finished forms). To register IRS wants a mobile phone with a plan owned by you (they check with service provider for owner name) but my phone plan is registered to my company. So instead they'll send me a letter mail with a code.
Sun Apr 04 2021
Sleep 0530 to 1215. (6-3/4 hours)
- Guy: "My school was so unbelievably competitive that because I succeeded with no real effort, I was hated." Me thinking: "Based on your behavior here and what you've said about your life, they didn't hate you because you were good, they hated you because you're an a-hole."
Mon Apr 05 2021
Sleep 0230 to 0830. 2 hour nap. (8-1/2 hours)
- Watching so much Paramount+ (reached Star Trek Discovery mid-season 3) I am burning through my Xfinity bandwidth. I guess I'll use up my grace month and go over the cap.
- Went to Cold Stone with CSr and CJr. Been a long time since I've had a Founder's Favorite.
Tue Apr 06 2021
Sleep 01:00 to 08:30. 30 min nap. (8 hours)
- Currently I think labor unions do more good than bad. In new industries and companies they help workers from being exploited so more good than bad. Older unions tend to be more bad than good but it's sort of self-correcting -- if they're too much of a drain on a company that company goes under and the union has to change to prevent that.
Wed Apr 07 2021
Sleep 0145 to 0745. (6 hours)
- I have Paramount+, I can watch JAG But there are so many missing episodes starting from season 2.
Thu Apr 08 2021
Sleep 02:15 to 12:15. (10 hours)
- AGI is $116k so I can contribute $6k to my Roth IRA.
- 2021 tax year max will be $7k because I'll be 50 this year.
Fri Apr 09 2021
Sleep 23:30 to 00:30, 04:30 to 10:30, 1 hour nap. (9 hours)
- Why does Dana Lombardy have a KS for Napoleon's Last Army (art book) and a similarly titled book in the works, Napoleon's Last Armies (scholarly work)? Too my 2Head brain several minutes to go back through my emails to make sure they aren't the same thing.
Financial Summary
Apr 08 2021
I did this last year as my first journal entry in RapidWeaver.
Oracle 401k = $1.16m
Microsoft 401k = $64k
WCBS 401k = $17k
Roth IRA = $348k
HSA = $43k
Oracle Restricted Stock = $6k
Oracle Stock = $117k
Total Retirement = $1.755m
Checking = $58k
Savings = $1k
Other Cash = $0k
Credit Debt = -$3k
Total Operating = $56k
How much do I need to retire?
I used the Fidelity calculator since most of my retirement funds are 401k. Added Roth IRA information.
Retire at 63, live to 93.
Maintain my current lifestyle.
If market is
Based on me needing to spend $8500 per month on whatever.
Mind you, I have 90%+ in stocks so that's volatile. I'm going to have to start putting into Bonds so that I can survive a few years if stocks tank for a bit. Ideally enough for a 10-year recession but that is a lot of money to basically be not investing.
Still, I think I remain on track.

Mortgage Payments
Apr 06 2021
I started with a $350k loan at 3.875% interest, 3-year fixed rate. $1645 per month payments.
I pay $2k per month and after 3-1/4 years my mortgage is down to $314k. If I stick with this it's another 18-1/4 years to pay off, which would mean I'm 68+ and I'd like to pay off before I retire.
At $2100 per month it's 17 years and at $2200 per month it's 16 years. My dream is paying $2500 per month which would pay off my mortgage in 13-1/2 years.

How to Cook Potstickers
Apr 01 2021
Well, this is how my dad taught me with the potstickers he makes.
You have to trust it and I usually mess it up half the time. Sometimes I over boil the potstickers and they fall apart during the frying. I've also flipped the potstickers but it's kind of nice having it crispy on one side and normal on the other sides. Also I've thawed out the potstickers and just fried them but the boiling part is to cook them so that came out a bit raw.
- Start with frozen potstickers
- In a deep frying pan put in the potstickers and cover them in water, want a bit higher so you can tell when they float
- High heat. Move them about a bit in case they're stuck to the bottom and you can't tell when they float
- When they float drain out as much water as you can, put back on burner
- Add a fair amount of oil, excess water will boil away
- Fry for a few minutes until the bottom is crispy. Use a spatula to make sure they don't stick to the bottom.
- Service with soy sauce and vinegar
