HOA Meeting 09/24/20
Sep 29 2020
Marcyl said if re-elected this will be her last 2-year term on the HOA. She's been on it for a long time and is pretty old.
Teresa was very insistent that building renovations be in the reserve budget and would rather put off elevator replacements.
Elevator replacement bids received. Our consultant said three of the four bids are good and the best option (not by much) is going with our current maintenance provider.
Andrew and one of the board members looking into getting additional cameras put up, would be a separate system than the current one. Manor rep said the recommended one is used by one of her other HOAs and they like it. It is more Internet based so you can use an app to view camera feeds and take pictures.

2020 November Election Ballot
Sep 24 2020
President and Vice President: Joseph R Biden and Kamala D Harris - I will skip basing my decision on the debates. I don't trust Trump to tell the truth during the debates and there are too many things Trump has done wrong during his first four years (which he thinks is right so he's not going to change his behavior).
US Representative, 14th District: Jackie Speier - I'm disgusted enough with my party that I'm voting all Democrats this election.
State Senator, 13th District: Josh Becker
Member of the State Assembly, 22nd Assembly District: Kevin Mullin
San Mateo County Board of Education, Trustee Area 4: Chelsea Bonini
San Mateo Union High School District, Governing Board: Ligia Andrade Zuniga
City of San Mateo, City Council: Amourence Lee and Diana Papan
---------------------------------------------
Proposition 14: Authorizes Bonds Continuing Stem Cell Research. ==> NO [edit: YES]
Proposition 15: Increases Funding Sources for Public Schools, Community Colleges, and Local Government Services by Changing Tax Assessment of Commercial and Industrial Property. ==> NO
Proposition 16: Allows Diversity as a Factor in Public Employment, Education, and Contracting Decisions. ==> NO
Proposition 17: Restores Right to Vote After Completion of Prison Term. ==> NO
Proposition 18: Amends California Constitution to Permit 17-year-olds to Vote in Primary and Special Elections if They Will Turn 18 by the Next General Election and be Otherwise Eligible to Vote. ==> NO
Proposition 19: Changes Certain Property Tax Rules. ==> NO
Proposition 20: Restricts Parole for Certain Offenses Currently Considered to be Non-Violent. Authorizes Felony Sentences for Certain Offenses Currently Treated Only as Misdemeanors. ==> NO
Proposition 21: Expands Local Governments' Authority to Enact Rent Control on Residential Property. ==> YES
Mostly because current law doesn't allow rent control on properties built after Feb 01 1995. Prop 21 changes this to properties less than 15 years old.
Proposition 22: Exempts App-Based Transportation and Delivery Companies from Providing Employee Benefits to Certain Drivers. ==> NO
Proposition 23: Establishes State Requirements for Kidney Dialysis Clinics. Require On-Site Medical Professional. ==> NO
Proposition 24: Amends Consumer Privacy Laws. ==> NO
Proposition 25: Referendum on Law that Replaced Money Bail System with System Based on Public Safety and Flight Risk. ==> YES
Yes means letting a 2018 law continue and I'm more of a "let legislators legislate and don't backseat".
---------------------------------------------
San Mateo-Foster City School District - Measure T: $409M bond for school upgrades and repair. ==> YES
City of San Mateo - Measure Y: Extend building height/density limits and housing requirements limits another 10 years. ==> YES

Measure W: Hotel tax increase from 12% to 15% ==> YES

BotezLive CARE Charity Stream
Sep 22 2020
BotezLive did a charity stream for CARE. As they describe it:
"Care is a leading humanitarian organization fighting global poverty. One of their main current missions is delivering lifesaving aid to communities who are vulnerable to the coronavirus due to lack of resources."
They also did one last year. This year's results are on the Softgiving page. The CARE Board of Directors were doing x5 matching on all donations.
$209,275.56 Donated
I did ILoveYouGerbs! as my meme. It was a pretty epic stream and a lot of generous viewers. I'll try to remember to link the YouTube highlights video.

Diary - Sep 12 to Sep 18 2020
Sep 19 2020
Sat Sep 12 2020
Sleep 1000 to 1600. (6 hours)
Sun Sep 13 2020
Sleep 08:30 to 15:30. (7 hours)
Mon Sep 14 2020
Sleep 00:30 to 05:00. 14:30 to 16:30. (6-1/2 hours)
Tue Sep 15 2020
Sleep 04:00 to 10:00. 14:45 to 17:00. (8-1/4 hours)
Wed Sep 16 2020
Sleep 03:30 to 09:00. 12:30 to 14:30. (7-1/2 hours)
Thu Sep 17 2020
Sleep 2330 to 0330. 1500 to 1700. (6 hours)
Fri Sep 18 2020
Sleep 0030 to 0330 12:15 to 16:45. (7-1/2 hours)
Sleep 1000 to 1600. (6 hours)
- Listening to a FASA Trek RPG podcast and I realize my RPG stuff is not here, it must be in a box at Christopher's house. Sadge.
Sun Sep 13 2020
Sleep 08:30 to 15:30. (7 hours)
- NFL Week 1. 49ers lose at home to the Cardinals. Apparently a lot of sloppy play. But there were no pre-season games so I expect it'll be a rough four weeks or so until the offense hits its stride.
Mon Sep 14 2020
Sleep 00:30 to 05:00. 14:30 to 16:30. (6-1/2 hours)
- Four of five Paramore albums are on sale ($5) at iTunes Store so I bought all five albums.
Tue Sep 15 2020
Sleep 04:00 to 10:00. 14:45 to 17:00. (8-1/4 hours)
- Apple Event. Apple One is disappointingly quite expensive.
Wed Sep 16 2020
Sleep 03:30 to 09:00. 12:30 to 14:30. (7-1/2 hours)
- Thinking about it, maybe not that expensive, if I was into Apple Music. But I'm kind of old school and want to own my music (realizing that buying a DRM-ed streaming album is still not the same as owning a CD). Apple TV+ is nice but I already have access to Netflix, Disney+ and dad's Xfinity plan so yet another video plan seems redundant.
Thu Sep 17 2020
Sleep 2330 to 0330. 1500 to 1700. (6 hours)
- DriveThruRPG is doing a September Cyberpunk Sale. It's a niche category. R Talsorian with their Cyberpunk RPG and four other publishers with a handful of products, all battle maps or paper miniatures. And it's a 15% off sale so a bit on the low side.
Fri Sep 18 2020
Sleep 0030 to 0330 12:15 to 16:45. (7-1/2 hours)
- Sending in my vote for HOA board. I'm on it but I'd rather the other guy win because I've already been on an HOA board for 10+ years and young people need experience and bring enthusiasm. There's also an incumbent (2 seats are open) but no doubt she'll be voted in.
Bundle of Holding - Fudge
Sep 17 2020
Fudge Bundle is up now. I've played FATE Accelerated (which is a simpler version of FATE) and FATE is based on Fudge. FATE Accelerated is definitely a bit too simple for my tastes, though I played a one-shot with a good GM and it went well. I just don't see it as my fave for campaign play as I like fiddly character bits. In any case I've always thought of Fudge as too simple for my tastes though I've been intrigued with Now Playing and apparently that's a heavier variant of Fudge.
GGG-1020 Fudge 10th Anniversary Edition ($17 estimate, 320-page hardcover $35) - not previously available in PDF.
GGG-5001 Terra Incognita ($11 estimate, 114-page softcover $23) - Exploration during the late Victorian Era (late 1800's to early 1900's) in the style of Jules Vernes. Not sure this is available in PDF.
GGG-6001 The Deryni Adventure Game ($20 estimate, 320-page hardcover $40) - also first time in PDF. Based on the Katherine Kurtz series. I've read at least a few of the books (my sister owned them). I'm not sure if this is the one where I read the second trilogy and thought she was retelling the first trilogy with different characters. Doesn't mean the RPG is bad.
AG-PP01 Psi-punk ($20, although more like $10, 192 pages) - a cyberpunk game set in 2096. Has three sourcebooks and an SRD.
AG-SOA01A Survival of the Able ($5, 117-digest page Ashcan) - the Black Death arrives in your Middle Age village, a survival horror game. Ashcan means beta version suitable for playtesting.
DAL-4000 Hack-n-Slash Fantasy Roleplay ($10, 48 pages) - a generic fantasy RPG.
G&B-001 The Orb ($10, 200 pages) - a fantasy rpg set in a world where the gods and their followers are about to war on each other.
CVG-1000 Now Playing ($18, 224-page hardcover $35) - tv show rpg. I think of it as Primetime Adventures in a much bigger book. In both you play characters where the world is a tv show with those tropes.
CVG-0200 The Unexplained ($20, 296-page softcover $30, hardcover $40) - modern-day paranormal investigations.
This bundle the reported prices are farther off than normal.
$121 for $26 which is a good ratio. Problem is I'm not sure I'm interested in any of these games since they're all main books. I'd rather have rules, setting, supplements, adventures in a bundle. I think Now Playing is the only worthwhile one in which case I'll wait for it to go on sale.

September 2020 Apple Event
Sep 15 2020
This month's Apple Event was mostly about Watch an
Apple Watch Series 6 ($400) with a blood oxygen sensor and always-on altimeter. It's kind of neat how many sensors they can fit into the form factor.
Apple Watch SE ($280) - I guess difference is display is not always-on, no blood oxygen and ecg sensors, and I'm guessing last generation processor. For the budget-conscious you can still buy a series 3 for $200.
Fitness+ ($10/month or $80/year) - Video fitness which uses your Apple Watch for metrics. Kind of like Peloton.
iPad Air ($600 64 GB, $750 256 GB) - a 10.9 inch with no mechanical home button and in different colors.
iPad ($330 32 GB, $430 128 GB) - a 10.2 inch low-end model with A12 Bionic chip (so at least 2 generations old)
Apple One - bundled subscriptions:
Apple One is the most interesting to me yet not worth it. Premier maybe if you share with other people. I think I'll stick with Apple Arcade.

Fri Sep 11 2020
Sleep 04:00 to 06:00.
Sleep None; Nap 12:00 to 16:00.
- Morning grocery shopping at Safeway. Checkout person said we can now bring our own bags again.
- Went to Ted Salon to see if I could get a haircut from Alex or Lena (who owned Alex's Deluxe Barber Shop). Apparently Ted's is one of those places where stylists rent a space so it might be hard to find them any given time. Might need to look for a new hair cutting place.
- I'm so out of shape my back was hurting after 15 minutes of walking.
- Saw that San Mateo has a couple of blocks of B Street closed to traffic so the space can be used for restaurant dining or what not.
- Flex alert Sat, Sun, Mon. It's going to be a hot Memorial Day Weekend.
Sun Sep 06 2020
Sleep 05:00 to 09:00, 09:30 to 14:00.
- ItsHafu wins Pogchamps 2
Mon Sep 07 2020
Sleep 10:00 to 15:00.
- Trying to install Among Us via CrossOver. Step 1 is installing Steam. Win 7 is fine but Among Us won't run. Win 8 and Win 10 Steam has UI issues (mostly blank screen) so can't get to Among Us installer. Sadge. Then I saw there's an iOS version so I downloaded that. Yay.
Tue Sep 08 2020
Sleep 01:15 to 05:15.
- Bundle of Holding Fudge bundle. I think Fate is a pretty light system and it's built on top of Fudge so Fudge must be really light.
Wed Sep 09 2020
Sleep 22:45 to 01:15, 03:30 to 11:30. (10-1/2 hours)
- In the RPGnet thread someone said Now Playing plays like a light GURPS. That was the one title in the bundle that looked promising mostly from when I was interested in Prime Time Adventures and Now Playing was also a television show rpg.
Thu Sep 10 2020
Sleep 03:30 to 09:00. 13:30 to 17:30 (9-1/2 hours)
- So tired all day today. Got little done. I do hate our morning scrum meeting.
Fri Sep 11 2020
Sleep 04:00 to 06:00.
- Went grocery shopping in the evening. Now you can bring your own bags to Safeway but you have to do your own bagging.

- Linux machine is off so using Desktop Client for a VNC-like session to my remote Linux VM at work. How do I get it to interpret ctrl-click as mouse2? Right now I end up enabling right mouse button on my Magic Mouse 2 but then I'm constantly accidentally right-clicking.

- Fire alarm went off last night about 01:15 just as I was going to sleep. Fire department came (three trucks) but it was resolved in half an hour. Someone mentioned smoke from an apartment. Maybe someone left something on and it smoked up their place and then they opened the front door to air it out and set off the main fire alarm.

Space: 1889 Bundle of Holding
Sep 03 2020
I ended up buying two Space: 1889 Bundle of Holding bundles and create a Space: 1889 Collection page.
The first bundle was for Clockwork Publishing, who did a Ubiquity engine version of the game in 2014 and and released a few supplements and a fair number of adventures. That bundle was every product released.
The second, newer bundle was from Heliograph which reprinted much of the original line with one updated release (Complete Canal Priests of Mars which adds another 50% cut from the original manuscript). Heliograph also published Transactions of the Royal Martian Geographical Society (a fanzine) which ran 8 print issues and a bit more as a webzine.
Missing from the second bundle was some boxed supplements. I list the ones I found on DriveThruRPG here:
Ironclads and Ether Flyers ($6)
Cloud Captains of Mars ($4)
Sky Galleons of Mars ($8 with Cloud Captains of Mars)
Pinnacle published Space 1889: Red Sands, a one-book adaptation to Savage Worlds with a plot point campaign.
Space 1889: Red Sands ($15) [DTRPG, or Pinnacle store via above link]
Space 1889: Red Sands Player's Guide ($5) [DTRPG, or Pinnacle store via above link]
But even though Red Sands is one-book-and-done, seven of the Clockwork Publishing adventures have Savage Worlds versions which were included in the first bundle.
Transactions of the Royal Martian Geographical Society v1-3 I did not see on DriveThruRPG so you'd have to find used copies. Noble Knight Games has them for $40 each.
The Liftwood Conspiracy (3W) is a lone 3rd party adventure for the original Space: 1899. Not on DTRPG but NKG has a copy for $25.

It will be a boxed set with a players' book and a game master's book, area and tactical maps, custom dice and cards. I pledged then I looked at my bookcase and backed out of my pledge.
