Changing My 401k Allocations

I decided to reallocate my 401k investments, reducing them to four basic choices: US large-cap index, US mid- and small-cap index, international, blended 2035. In both cases it will probably reduce my growth a bit since I'm closer to 50% large-cap stocks which has been doing the best the past 5 years (and it doesn't include all the Oracle stock I have which is large-cap). But increased stability since my blended 2035 percentage is currently closer to 10%

(%) is expense ratio, which is what the management fees take from the fund. From what I remember a managed fund is 1% and a straight ETF is 0.1% The point being most managed funds don't outperform ETFs so that 0.9% is money you're wasting.

Oracle 401k

Vanguard Institutional 500 Index Trust (0.012%) - large-cap US stocks = 40%
Vanguard Institutional Extended Market Index Trust (0.036%)- small- and mid-cap US stocks = 20%
Vanguard Institutional Total International Stock Market Index Trust (0.069% - non-US stocks = 20%
Vanguard Target Retirement 2035 Trust Select (0.045%) - blended fund for people retiring in 2035 = 20%

Microsoft 401k

Vanguard Russell 1000 Growth Index Trust (0.02%) - large- and mid-cap growth stocks = 40%
Vanguard Russell 2000 Growth Index Trust (0.03%) - small-cap growth stocks = 20%
International Growth Account (0.44%) - non-US stocks = 20%
BlackRock LifePath® Index 2035 Fund N (0.06%) - blended fund for people retiring in 2035 = 20%

GOG Anniversary Party

GOG has a list of games on sale for their 13th Anniversary Party. What looks interesting?

Terra Lander ($1.50, Windows) - Lunar lander color vector graphics + shooting bad guys
Terra Lander II ($2.50, Windows) - Like the first game + rescuing people
Terra Bomber ($2.50, Windows) - Simpler-graphics version of the arcade game Scramble (horizontal scrolling space bomber)

Dishonored 2 ($14, Windows) - Super-powered assassin in a clockwork world. D1 had a male protagonist, D2 has a female one.
Dice Legacy: Deluxe Edition ($21, Windows) - Turn based strategy, maybe 4X like. You roll dice (representing your people) and then allocate them out. Looks different than the usual.

Heroes of Might and Magic ($2.50, Windows) - Turn-based strategy game series. I think as usual earlier games are probably more my style before the games get too complicated.
Heroes of Might and Magic 2 ($2.50, Windows)
Heroes of Might and Magic 3 ($2.50, Windows)
Heroes of Might and Magic 4 ($2.50, Windows)
Heroes of Might and Magic 5 ($5, Windows)

Too bad they're all Windows games. Since it's DOSBox or something equivalent can run them on CrossOver, and running them on VMWare Fusion seems like would be painfully slow.

Diary - Sep 18 to Sep 24 2021

Sat Sep 18 2021

Sleep 0430 to 1130. (7 hours)

  • Gloomhaven at my place. Christopher, Dave S, Dave W and me fighting a fiery demon lord which we managed to beat considering we were a bit unfocused for the first half.

Sun Sep 19 2021
Sleep 0700 to 1130. (4-1/2 hours)

  • After DDO stayed up until 0615 watching Anna Cramling finish her first 24-hour stream.

Mon Sep 20 2021

Sleep 0030 to 0800. 45 min nap. (8-1/4 hours)

Tue Sep 21 2021

Sleep 0530 to 1200. (6-1/2 hours)

  • Another win so now I'm 2-0 tied for first in the league. Game three is against the other 2-0 team.

Wed Sep 22 2021

Sleep 0100 to 0830. 30 min nap. (8 hours)

  • Kind of had my heart set on claiming Cordarelle Patterson off of waivers but someone else bid more. CP is listed as both a RB and WR -- juicy flexibility!
  • The way the league is set up five bench players means one backup for every position except one, which I'm guessing is usually Kicker.

Thu Sep 23 2021

Sleep 0200 to 1000. 30 min nap. (8-1/2 hours)

  • Oops. Achtung! Cthulhu sales was for the CoC version. Modiphius is doing a 2d20 version (their house system) though not sure if the background will still be based on CoC or if they're taking that out and keeping it Lovecraftian.

Fri Sep 24 2021

Sleep 0330 to 1200. (8-1/2 hours)

  • The Waking of Willowby Hall (OSR Lvl 3 adventure) on sale 50% off ($3.75). Did a search of reviews and seems pretty favorable so I bought it.

DriveThruRPG September Settings Sale: Fey Folk

DTRPG Fey Folk sale is a bit of a weird one. There are few faerie RPGs outside Changeling but a lot of RPGs have one or three supplements with faerie. I looked through the whole list and found a couple of interesting ones.

Apparently, Bluebeard's Bride, which I own, has these supplements:

MGP-D07 Tarot of Servants (33% off, $2) - for generating servants on-the-fly
MGP-020 Book of Rooms (33% off, $9.37) - detailed room descriptions, including drawings
MGP-023 Book of Lore (33% off, $9.37) - 98-page novella
MGP-025 Book of Mirrors (33%, $9.37) - variants for playing BB's Bride in different settings

The first two would help running the main adventure. The other two are even more optional. There's a cheaper bundle with the main book plus three book supplements for $33.

The other thing is White Wolf Magazine #17 for $0.66 (33% off). Which reminds me that you can buy a lot of the WW magazines for $1 or $2 each so that's something to buy someday sale or no sale (no bundle sadly).

Bundle of Holding - Mutant Crawl Classics

The MCC bundle included the RPG and most of the published adventures (though there are a lot of 3d-party adventures for MCC) for $22. DCC had a Humble Bundle offering with a lot of stuff. MCC probably doesn't have enough catalog for Humble Bundle so the Bundle of Holding may be it. I like the genre and the price is good so I'll be buying this bundle.

GMG-6200 Mutant Crawl Classics RPG ($25)
GMG-6210 MCC #000 Judge's Screen (2017) ($6)
GMG-6211 MCC #001 Hive of the Overmind (2017) ($7) - 20-page level 0 adventure
GMG-6212 MCC #002 A Fallen Star For All (2017) ($7) - 22-page level 1 adventure
GMG-6213 MCC #003 Incursion of the Ultradimension (2017) ($7) - 26-page level 2 adventure
GMG-6215 MCC #005 Blessings of the Vile Brotherhood (2017) ($7) - 24-page level 4 adventure
GMG-6216 MCC #006 The Apocalypse Ark (2017) ($7) - 24-page level 5 adventure
GMG-6218 MCC #008 The Data Orb of the Metakind (2017) ($7) - 26-page adventure
GMG-6219 MCC #009 The Evil of the Ancients (2018) ($7) - 27-page level 3 adventure
GMG-6220 MCC #010 Seeking the Post-Humans (2019) ($7) - 20-page level 0 funnel

Diary - Sep 11 to Sep 17 2021

Sat Sep 11 2021

Sleep 0030 to 0830, 2 hours napping. (10 hours)

  • All the kids visited mom and dad. Arroz con pollo for lunch. Won ton soup for dinner.

Sun Sep 12 2021

Sleep 0630 to 1330. (7 hours)

Mon Sep 13 2021

Sleep 0100 to 1030. (9-1/2 hours)

  • Modiphius is letting their CoC license lapse (they have many other lines to concentrate on) so there is now an Achtung! Cthulhu PDF bundle for $13 which has all their products for that line. This was a setting that did not click with me (I gave away all my books to Mary K).

Tue Sep 14 2021

Sleep 0430 to 0830. 1130 to 1330. (6 hours)

Wed Sep 15 2021

Sleep 0230 to 0830. 30 min nap. (6-1/2 hours)

  • After week 1 in my NFL fantasy league I'm 1-0. Had to replace secondary QB R Fitzpatrick because he got injured and went on IR. Got QB J Burrows who is the starter for Cleveland.

Thu Sep 16 2021

Sleep 0415 to 1200. (7-3/4 hours)

  • "Recall has been weaponized". If the top Republican candidate in the recall election was a radio talk show host then the GOP was not taking this seriously and whichever organization got the signatures for a recall election were being a bunch of d-bags.

Fri Sep 17 2021

Sleep 0630 to 1130, 1230 to 1530. 30 min nap. (8-1/2 hours)

  • No work day. Almost.

Humble Bundle - Mutants Power-Up

M&M Earth Prime is a revived bundle from two years ago:

GRR-5510 M&M Deluxe Hero's Handbook (2013)
GRR-5511 Freedom City 3E (2017)
GRR-5513 Hero High (Revised) ( (2016)
GRR-5514 Atlas of Earth-Prime (2017)
GRR-5515 Rogues Gallery (2017)
GRR-5516 M&M Basic Hero Handbook (2018) - a bit redundant since Deluxe is also in bundle

The rules, three settings and a villains book. Not enough that I would have bought it back then.

Mutants Power-Up is a new 1/2 bundle:

GRR-5517 Superteam Handbook (2019)
GRR-5518 M&M 3E Deluxe Gamemaster's Guide (2019)
GRR-5519 Time Traveler's Codex (2020)

Still no adventures.

I guess I'm only interested in the Deluxe Hero's Handbook to supplement DC Adventures and yet not willing to spend $20 for the same rules (albeit with more examples, I think).

Diary - Sep 04 to Sep 10 2021

Sat Sep 04 2021

Sleep 0330 to 0930. (6 hours)

  • There was a Bunk'd season 5 this year. That's unusual for a Disney series, though they did replace the main characters after season 3.

Sun Sep 05 2021

Sleep 0400 to 1330. (9-1/2 hours)

  • Ended buying Metamorphosis Alpha 1E bundle since it's almost complete and a quiescent line.

Mon Sep 06 2021

Sleep 0100 to 0600. 1300 to 1500. (7 hours)

  • Figured out that if I squish down the coffee filter so it's below the cup rim then I can brew 4 cups of coffee without the grounds spilling out into the pot.

Tue Sep 07 2021

Sleep 2145 to 0315. 2 hour nap. (7-1/2 hours)

  • Maybe I shouldn't work on holiday's because then I start the work week tired.

Wed Sep 08 2021

Sleep 0130 to 0930. (8 hours)

  • Grocery shopping at Trader Joe's and Safeway.

Thu Sep 09 2021

Sleep 0430 to 1300. (8-1/2 hours)

  • Bought the three Rusty Lake games for $5 on sale at

Fri Sep 10 2021

Sleep 0530 to 0930, 1130 to 1630. (7 hours)

  • Stayed up much of the night working on a demo that did not turn out well. Miscommunication about what we were actually supposed to demo.

Let's see if there's anything interesting.

Imperial Campaigns Series 1: The Boer War ($53) Looks like a traditional wargame with traditional rules, though it does use a card deck. Haven't heard of Canvas Temple Publishing. They do have a few publications but none of which I've heard about. Does look like an interesting subject.

MyLife - Streamer Simulation ($25) Not so much because it looks interesting but because there is so little detail about the project. Kind of looks like they've barely started programming and no indication if the creator has any previously finished projects.

Renaissance Chess Challenge™ - The Art of Chess Reimagined ($50) Standard chess but the board has an extra two center ranks and when you capture a piece in the extra area you draw a card which gives you a bonus or penalty. The chess board design is "patent pending" though I really doubt you can get a patent for that. Also I think I've seen chess-type games that use cards. I mean, there's nothing here that screams THIS IS AN AWESOME IDEA.

dUltimate - A Multifunctional Dice Design ($28) One golf-ball-sized die that can substitute for any of the standard dX dice. To me it looks like it will roll forever and as it wears down the problem will get worse. Also, $28 per die is quite high.

Bundle of Holding - City of Mist

City of Mist is a "comic-book epic-myth neo-noir detective tabletop roleplaying game" based on the Apocalypse Engine. The bundle is for some of the products and this seems to be an active line. Also seems a bit pricey so I'll skip this bundle.

All-Seeing Eye Investigations Starter Set
City of Mist Player's Guide
MC Toolkit
Quick-Start Rules
Location Maps
MC Screen
If Dreams Could Kill
Don't Believe the Truth

The Personal Vein 1: Killing Her Softly
The Personal Vein 2: Carnival of Machines
The Personal Vein 3: Broken Glass

La Colonia de Sombras
Tourist Trap
City of Mist Soundtrack (5 songs)

Diary - Aug 28 to Sep 03 2021

Sat Aug 28 2021

Sleep 0400 to 1100. (7 hours)

  • Signed up for and will see if I can post what happened to us.

Sun Aug 29 2021

Sleep 0500 to 0930. (4-1/2 hours)

Mon Aug 30 2021

Sleep 0030 to 0800. (7-1/2 hours)

Tue Aug 31 2021

Sleep 0215 to 1015. (8 hours)

  • Starting to suspect that my MBP network connection is slow after waking from sleep. I do know that rebooting doesn't work as well as shutdown/startup vis-a-vis connecting to my Drobo sometimes.

Wed Sep 01 2021

Sleep 0045 to 0315, 1015 to 1315. (5-1/2 hours)

Thu Sep 02 2021

Sleep 0000 to 0700. 1 hour nap. (8 hours)

  • Oops. Locast is suspending operations starting today.

Fri Sep 03 2021

Sleep 0330 to 1200. (8-1/2 hours)

  • Next step in getting a haircut is deciding where to go. I'm thinking of All Star Barber Shop which is a small one-person shop 10 minutes walk.

Bundle of Holding - Shadowrun 6E Stories

Shadowrun 6E Stories is a bundle for the latest edition of Shadowrun, Sixth World. Hmm, $18 for mostly novels and no RPG support so I'll hard pass.

CAT-28000 Shadowrun: Sixth World Core Rules (2019)

Spells and Chrome
Sprawl Stories v1
World of Shadows
