- I was thinking, since baseball gambling odds are +/- (e.g. +126 = bet $100 to win $126, -149 = bet $149 to win $100) and it only matters if your team wins or losses, then why doesn't football and basketball do the same thing? At least for that common gambling use case it would make point shaving less likely or weird plays that ruin the spread.
Sun Sep 24 2023
Sleep 0330 to 1330. (10 hours)
- Girl by Moonlight is finally in the USA and ready to ship so final PDFs have been released to backers.
Mon Sep 25 2023
Sleep 0415 to 1145. (7-1/2 hours)
- Bundle of Holding: Flying Circus ($13) - Apocalypse Engine RPG that combines WWI fighter planes and a fantasy world. The bundle is the RPG core book + three supplements with high-altitude rules and lots of aircraft (I guess each aircraft is a separate character play book).
Tue Sep 26 2023
Sleep 0615 to 1345. (7-1/2 hours)
- Problem is getting people to go to exact Discord thread so they can post submissions for an event. I can get a link to that goes to the thread assuming you are registered on the target Discord. Invite links can go to a Discord channel but not a thread (from mobile Twitch client it goes to Discord app but not anywhere in particular).
- Don't see a way around it. Currently our help command has thread link and goes on to say if link doesn't work try to register with our !discord, which implies you need to type!discord to get invite link. It's just that people are very bad about following instructions.
Wed Sep 27 2023
Sleep 0345 to 1215. 30m nap. (9 hours)
- Candlestick Chronicles podcasts now often (always?) have a promotion to a podcast tacked on at the end so it's an extra 20m to 30m of an actual other podcast. Not sure if it's the same podcast all the time or different ones from their network. One time I listened for a minute it was some financial podcast.
Thu Sep 28 2023
Sleep 0115 to 0715. (6 hours)
- Left about 1030 to go pick up Dave S.
- Stop at Tracy Starbucks. There is a Fish and Chips place in the same building but I was kind of full.
- Stop at Manteca Chevron. I think gas was $6.10 per gallon though other places were up to $1 less.
- Stop at The Haps Boba Tea & Bites in Twain Harte. Kind of a nice place in a small woodland town.
- Picked up Dave S at the Sonora Pass Trailhead (38.329350, -119.635070) and at over 7k feet high I was out of breath walking 100 yards. I got there about half an hour before Dave S so pretty good timing especially since there is no cell connection in that area.
- Went 10 miles and stopped at Kennedy Meadows Resort & Pack Station. Restaurant opens at 1700 (we got there at 1600). We had a drink at the bar then decided to drive back to Dave S's place for dinner. He bought a bunch of junk food since he was a bit starving.
- After getting back to Pleasant Hill at 2030 we went to Taqueria Los Gallos Express (in Concord) which is open late (tried Tom's Crab Shack but it was closed early today).
Fri Sep 29 2023
Sleep 2330 to 0430. 0915 to 1100. (6-3/4 hours)
- C3 and Steph in Legoland (San Diego, CA) today and this weekend.
- Novel Writing Game Tools presents these solo and group journaling games as tools for writers. Makes it less interesting but probably not my genre of games anyway.
What's New on Netflix Oct 01
Sep 28 2023
To go along with Expiring on Netflix I also look at What's New on Netflix. What's interesting?
Kushi (2000)
Indian romantic comedy. An atheists son falls in love with a Hindu leader's daughter.
Love Actually (2003)
Supposed to be a great romantic vignettes movie. I think I watched parts and it didn't impress me but I should give the whole movie a chance.
Love is in the Air (2023)
Netflix romantic movie. Woman struggles to keep her small piloting business running in the face of the corporate representative sent to shut her down. Love blooms between the two. Guess I'm in the mood for romantic films.
Nowhere (2023)
Netflix Spanish drama movie. Pregnant woman tries to survive on a floating shipping container adrift in the ocean. "How can someone survive with extremely limited resources in a hostile environment" is an interesting genre.

Expiring on Netflix Sep 30
Sep 26 2023
I look at What's Expiring on Netflix Soon? so what's expiring in a few days that might be interesting to watch?
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008)
I started watching this film and got half an hour or so in. It's supposed to be this great romance but I had barely gotten to the part where old man Benjamin meets young girl and they will fall in love in the future when their ages are closer. Just a bit boring and I couldn't continue.
Five Feet Apart (2019)
One of those young people tragic romantic stories about two critically ill hospital patients who fall in love but can't get close to each other for fear of infection. I don't like sad endings hence when I see this film listing I think that'd be a nice movie to watch but then remember I wouldn't like the ending.
Flight (2012)
Denzel Washington film about an airline pilot that saves the day but there is a dark secret. Kind of reminds me of Sully (2016) which is about US Airways Flight 1549 which had to emergency land in the Hudson River on Jan 2009. I've kind of wanted to watch one of the two movies but never really committed to either.
Hardcore Henry (2015)
Never seen this action movie shot almost (or all) in first person POV à la Doom the computer game.

Fri Sep 22 2023
Sleep 0530 to 1100. (5-1/2 hours)
Sleep 0630 to 1330. (7 hours)
- Walked to the SMCU ATM but forgot my card so couldn't deposit money.
- The reason I'm doing this is to get an hour walk in at the end of the day to hit my goals for both the current day and the next day. It is hard to time it so I hit my goals close to midnight -- the previous times I had to jog a bit to hit the goals in the final couple of minutes. This time I hit it 15 minutes early so I sat down for a bit and listened to a podcast until midnight.
Sun Sep 17 2023
Sleep 0530 to 1230. (7 hours)
- HOA: Looks like we're ready to have people sign up for EV charger installations. The cost is $4600 installation (within 100 feet of meter so should be less for me) + $650 for Wallbox Pulsar Plus 40A Universal EV Charger (which has both WiFi and Bluetooth so technically don't need set up WiFi in garage).
- You can update the Wallbox via Bluetooth + myWallbox app.
Mon Sep 18 2023
Sleep 0530 to 1100. 30 min nap. (6 hours)
- Went to dentist to get replacement crown. Anesthesia and drilling take like half an hour and then another half hour at the end to put in the crown. Then there's the middle hour plus you're lying there napping while the tooth cools down from the drilling.
- Went to Whole Foods afterwards. Got Key Lime Tart as they didn't have a Fruit Tart. Cheese and maybe old bread. Sushi (probably not worth the price) and New England Clam Chowder (pretty good). Also a couple of thick pork chops but they didn't have any Tagliatelle noodles; guess I'll use Fettuccine which I have at home.
Tue Sep 19 2023
Sleep 0515 to 1345. (8-1/2 hours)
- Signed up for Twitch chess channel subscription and confirmed 4K Video Downloader+ doesn't support private channels except for YouTube.
- Did find the chesscomlive channel on YouTube so perhaps I can download the videos I want from there... yes, able to do that.
Wed Sep 20 2023
Sleep 0400 to 1230. (8-1/2 hours)
- C2 got COVID during their Spain vacation so they're in isolation. I'll skip this week's dinner and it should be fine next Wednesday.
- Uh, oh. Ran out of ground coffee. I have a sealed bag of bean coffee which I mistakenly bought a few years ago and need to ground at my brother's place. I also have Nescafe instant coffee which expired 2015.
- Made Nescafé and tasted fine (in that it already tasted bad and doesn't seem worse). With a cookie or key lime tart (I have some right now) it's just fine.
Thu Sep 21 2023
Sleep 0215 to 0315. 0730 to 1300. (6-1/2 hours)
- Bundle of Holding: Hostile is revived and same as when it was offered in April 2022. Back then I looked at it and decided not to buy it so I'll stick with that.
- Bundle of Holding: Mistborn Adventure Game is for an epic fantasy RPG based on Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn novels. Fantasy RPG that is not OSR (Mistborn is a d6 die pool system) is a hard sell to me so I'll skip this one too.
- Walked to Mi Rancho Supermarket. Got a bit more milk and a gallon of mango juice. Wanted to buy coffee grounds but they just have instant coffee: Folgers and Nescafé. They also have pan dulce which is pretty neat.
Fri Sep 22 2023
Sleep 0530 to 1100. (5-1/2 hours)
- I was hoping that YouTube's "Hide user from my channel" would block them from recommended feed but nope. Feature used to be called something more aggressive like "Block user from my channel" and people said it had the effect I want.
GOG 15th Anniversary Sale
Sep 21 2023
GOG 15th Anniversary Sale. Some interesting games I don't own.
Wasteland Remastered (2020) [$1.64, 89% off, Windows] Wasteland 1988 is a bit of a classic post-apocalyptic RPG and the 2020 version is the same game with better graphics ad I assume works without DOSBox. (Reviews indicate this is buggy which would be sad.)
XCOM: Chimera Squad (2020) [$3, 85% off, Windows] An easier version of XCOM (tactical, turn-based combat in a universe where aliens invade Earth) sounds good to me. One reviewer notes that mods for this game, almost all on Steam workshop, don't work in the GOG versino of the game so that's a bit annoying but I'm not that into mods.
Age of Wonders (1999) [$1.50, 75% off, Windows] Fantasy turn-based strategy game with tactical combat. Not a 4X game.
Marble Age Remastered (2021) [$2.50, 75% off, Windows/Linux/Mac] Looks like a simple version of Civilization set in Ancient Greece.
Predynastic Egypt (2016) [$2.50, 75% off, Windows/Linux/Mac] Same developer as Marble Age Remastered and I guess similar formula of simple Civilization this time set in Ancient Egypt. Apparently was an Android game.
Mission Critical (1995) [$4.50, 35% off, Windows/Linux/Mac] Science fiction first-person puzzle game with FMV (filmed motion video, i.e. with actors) bits.

Shadowrun Legends Fiction Collection Bundle
Sep 19 2023
Shadowrun Legends Fiction Collection is $18 for 42 classic Shadowrun novels. I don't have any of these but since I have a bunch of Shadowrun RPG 1E and 2E books from a previous bundle getting the fiction makes some sense..
Never Deal with a Dragon (Secrets of Power #1) (1990)
Choose Your Enemies Carefully (Secrets of Power #2) (1991)
Find Your Own Truth (Secrets of Power #3) (1991)
2XS (1992)
Changeling (1992)
Never Trust an Elf (1992)
Shadowplay (1993)
Night's Pawn (1993)
Striper Assassin (1993)
Lone Wolf (1994)
Fade to Black (1994)
Burning Bright (1994)
Who Hunts the Hunter (1995)
House of the Sun (1995)
Worlds Without End (1995)
Just Compensation (1996)
Preying for Keeps (1996)
Dead Air (1996)
The Lucifer Deck (1997)
Steel Rain (1997)
Shadowboxer (1997)
Stranger Souls (Dragon Heart Saga #1) (1997)
Headhunters (1997)
Clockwork Asylum (Dragon Heart Saga #2) (1997)
Blood Sport (1998)
Beyond the Pale (Dragon Heart Saga #3) (1998)
Technobabel (1998)
Wolf and Raven (1998)
Psychotrope (1998)
The Terminus Experiment (1999)
Run Hard, Die Fast (1999)
Crossroads (1999)
The Forever Drug (1999)
Ragnarock (2000)
Tails You Lose (2001)
The Burning Time (2001)
Born to Run (The Kellen Colt Trilogy #1) (2005)
Poison Agendas (The Kellen Colt Trilogy #2) (2006)
Fallen Angels (The Kellen Colt Trilogy #3) (2006)
Drops of Corruption (2006)
Aftershocks (2006)
A Fistful of Data (2006)
Into the Shadows (1990) - trade paperback anthology
Streets of Blood (1992) - story set in England 2054
Nosferatu (1994) - sequel to Streets of Blood
Black Madonna (1996) - sequel to Nosferatu
I'm guessing the four omitted books are because one was a trade paperback (so not mass market paperback) and three books not set in America (though I'm not sure if the other novels are all in America).
This bundle would be almost all FASA published fiction and all WizKids published fiction. I think I'll buy this bundle.

Sleep 0300 to 0800, 1300 to 1500. (7 hours)
Tue Sep 12 2023
Sleep 0300 to 1230. (10-1/2 hours)
Wed Sep 13 2023
Sleep 0445 to 1215 (7-1/2 hours)
Thu Sep 14 2023
Sleep 0500 to 1200. (7 hours)
Fri Sep 15 2023
Sleep 0545 to 1315. (7-1/2 hours)
Sleep 0200 to 1200. (10 hours)
- Another long walk to SMCU. Also needed to get AAA batteries and the Safeway is right there but their battery cabinet is locked and I didn't want to ask someone to unlock it. I can get AAA batteries from Walmart like on Monday.
Sun Sep 10 2023
Sleep 0430 to 1230. (8 hours)
- The Nightmares Underneath bundle centers on an OSR RPG of horror dungeon delving -- i.e. going into dungeons and killing nightmare monsters and instead of hit points you accumulate nightmare curses. I guess this is kind of like the computer game Darkest Dungeon. I'll probably skip this bundle.
Mon Sep 11 2023
Sleep 0300 to 0800, 1300 to 1500. (7 hours)
- Received a notice that my home insurance will be cancelled at the end of this period (Dec 06) because they don't offer that product anymore. Perhaps not worried since I use Steph's insurance broker.
Tue Sep 12 2023
Sleep 0300 to 1230. (10-1/2 hours)
- Apple Watch S9 and iPhone 15 announced. I realize that if I stick with iPhone SE I'll never get cool hardware like three cameras and big screens (and the equivalent for Apple Watch SE) but I can live with that.
Wed Sep 13 2023
Sleep 0445 to 1215 (7-1/2 hours)
- I received a notice about a class action suit against Tesla. As far as I can tell:
- board of directors got stock options that they "didn't deserve" I guess because company was not performing well enough to warrant that reward
- settlement it so return those stock options (reverse sales, etc.) and to change how Tesla awards stock options
- lawyers get a bunch of money
- plaintiffs (everybody who owns Tesla stock) get nothing? since the money is being returned to Tesla so indirectly benefits us as stock owners.
- It's a lot of legalese and hard to understand. I wish there was plain language of what's going on.
Thu Sep 14 2023
Sleep 0500 to 1200. (7 hours)
- I'm thinking of buying the Mutants & Masterminds 3E RPG core book since it has corrected rules compared to DC Heroes RPG and the page numbers should match the GM's Kit Quickstart Character Generator (which I love).
Fri Sep 15 2023
Sleep 0545 to 1315. (7-1/2 hours)
- Trader Joe's. Their bone-in + skin chicken thigh is not bad price. $2 per pound in single/couple packages of 1-1/2 or so pounds. Safeway big 8 lb of same type of chicken is $2.50 per pound. I guess Safeway chicken is sometimes on sale 2 for 1 though I seldom happen by at the same time.
Trail of Cthulhu Book Bundle
Sep 14 2023
Humble Bundle's Trail of Cthulhu Book Bundle gives you a bunch of RPG goodness of the soon to be obsolete RPG because Trail of Cthulhu 2nd edition has been announced for a KS this November. It's a lot of stuff though omits the purist adventures, Cthulhu Apocalypse, and a few adventures.
I own some of the PDFs, especially older versions that were reprinted as compilations, although I don't own the core rules in PDF. And I probably still have a lot of the early print products but not PDFs. So this bundle is still mostly useful. I'm mostly worried that since it doesn't have everything there maybe a future bundle that includes everything so I'd be buying it again. Still I guess $18 is too low to pass up.
$18 gives you:

I own some of the PDFs, especially older versions that were reprinted as compilations, although I don't own the core rules in PDF. And I probably still have a lot of the early print products but not PDFs. So this bundle is still mostly useful. I'm mostly worried that since it doesn't have everything there maybe a future bundle that includes everything so I'd be buying it again. Still I guess $18 is too low to pass up.

Sleep 0200 to 0730. 1200 to 1400. (7-1/2 hours)

- HOA special meeting went an hour. Took questions about the two interior design proposals (though the homeowners did not receive a copy of either proposal). We finally decided on the the pricier proposal because we trust that vendor more (he's done two jobs for us the last couple of years, both times without cost overruns).
Thu Sep 07 2023
Sleep 0000 to 0100, 0800 to 1400. (7 hours)
- This evening walked to SMCU to deposit some cash and walked back. Over an hour and I haven't walked that much since maybe the first year I lived in San Mateo. A bit sore.

Sleep 0300 to 1030. (7-1/2 hours)
- Last night of DDO before Christopher and Corina leave for Spain. CSr and I did A Legend Revisited three times (Reaper 2, Elite, Hard) trying to get a Cursed Blade of Jack Jibbers but we didn't get any (it is a very low percentage chance drop).
Delta Green Mega Bundle
Sep 07 2023
Another Delta Green bundle so let's see if we want to buy it this time. For $40 you get PDF versions of:
Delta Green Agent's Handbook ($20) - Players book
Delta Green Handler's Guide ($30) - GM book
The Complex ($10) - "The Complex presents 21 current dossiers for federal agencies and important contractors to enhance your Delta Green campaign. Each dossier describes the entity's budget, operatives, organizational structure and history, mandate, areas of friction with other agencies, suggested professions for Delta Green agents, and what it's like to work there."
Agent Dossiers ($3) - "Agent Dossiers collects 41 pre-written character sheets, one for every profession described in the Agent's Handbook of Delta Green: The Role-Playing Game, plus all the professions added in The Complex."
Delta Green: The Conspiracy ($25) - A sourcebook of 1990's era Delta Green (the original was written in 1997, this version is the same 1990's era info updated with 2020 hindsight).
Delta Green: The Labyrinth ($25) - "...this all-new collection of organizations presents ready-made sources of allies, enemies, mysteries, and surprises for your Delta Green campaign..."
Iconoclasts ($20) - 206-page, 5-adventure campaign set in Mosul, Iraq.
Impossible Landscapes ($38) - "Impossible Landscapes is a 368-page campaign for Delta Green: The Roleplaying Game. Four operations sprawl across decades and the immeasurable stretches of nightmare."
ARCHINT ($5) - "Delta Green deals in older secrets. It needs archeological intelligence. ARCHINT: a study of appalling dangers left in hidden places." A collection of items/locations.
Delta Green Handler's Screen ($10)
So we get the two rulebooks, 2 campaign books with 9 adventures, and maybe The Conspiracy if you want to set a campaign in the 1990's and the rest are ephemera.
Somewhat tempting but it's not making me go "must have this!".

Tales from Wales Interactive Game Bundle
Sep 05 2023
Wales Interactive makes filmed story games that are pretty much choose-your-own-adventure style decisions without the gonzo plot turns. These games are all macOS compatible 64-bit games. Tales from Wales Interactive bundle for $10 you get six titles and two modest coupons for two other titles.
The Bunker (2016, $15) - "The Bunker is an award-winning interactive psychological horror movie. You are John, born underground the day the bombs fell, now alone and trying to survive."
Late Shift (2017, $15) - "Late Shift is a high stakes FMV crime thriller. Forced into a brutal London heist..."
The Complex (2020, $15) - "After a major bio-weapon attack on London, two scientists find themselves in a locked-down laboratory with time, and air, running out."
Five Dates (2020, $15) - "Five Dates is an interactive rom-com about the unpredictable world of digital dating. With five potential female matches, Vinny explores whether compatibility, chemistry and connection is still possible in a world where physical touch is no longer an option."
Blood Shore (2021, $15) - "Bloodshore is an interactive action movie about a televised battle royale between high-profile streamers, entertainers and death row inmates. You control the fate of Nick, a washed-up actor who fights for a life-changing cash prize."
Mia and the Dragon Princess (2023, $15) - "A live-action, interactive action movie following Mia, a plucky barmaid whose life is thrown into chaos when a mysterious woman turns up at her workplace, on the run from a group of violent thugs and unable to speak English."
For $10 I think this is a worthwhile bundle.

- DDO: Mark of Death raid. Legendary Tempest's Spine raid. For the latter we paused 15m as I had to exit and get items to get my strength up to 45 for a required lever (we don't have any Fighter types in our party).
Sun Aug 27 2023
Sleep 0430 to 1215. (7-3/4 hours)
- C3 and I went to Woo's house to celebrate Jonathan's birthday.
- I got a bit car sick on the way there and was not feeling well until late that night.
Mon Aug 28 2023
Sleep 0315 to 11:15. (8 hours)
- Recent Twitch admin update broke scrolling up user message history on Firefox. Checked Chrome and it works fine. Guess they don't test much on Firefox.
Tue Aug 29 2023
Sleep 0515 to 1215. (7 hours)
- Found these reimagined maps of Quasqueton (the dungeon of B1 In Search of the Unknown). Really nice and more like a D&D 3E map. I think I'll use this map as it's easier to map with diagrams.net -- the original map has lots of secret areas you can find if you map exactly whereas the Return maps remove all that except in a couple of cases.
Wed Aug 30 2023
Sleep 0200 to 1100. (9 hours)
- C3 dinner. Corina is in Bakersfield this week. CSr had to take CJr to a Scouts picnic and I tagged along. Sort of an intro/recruitment picnic at Beresford Park. CJr looks sharp in his Webelos uniform though he quickly got bored so we left after the speeches.
Thu Aug 31 2023
Sleep 0545 to 1345. (8 hours)
- I thought New Amsterdam had only like two seasons but apparently it had five. I really liked it but season 2 was a cliffhanger and then I thought the series had been cancelled. Anyways now on Netflix so I'll to try watching it all the way through.
Fri Sep 01 2023
Sleep 0630 to 1300. (6-1/2 hours)
- C2 vacation in Spain starts next Saturday and they'll be gone about 10 days.
