Sleep 0245 to 1045 (8 hours)
- Gaming at C3’s place. Got two hours done. Dinner at Superstar Dim Sum and Seafood Restaurant. Mango birthday cake for Jonathan’s birthday (which is on Wednesday).
- A bit of discussion about what game to replace Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands. I favor MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries when it comes on sale.
- DDO: We did The Claw of Vulkoor (21) at R5 and lots and lots of dying. Scorpions are surprisingly tough.
Sun Aug 24 2025
Sleep 0345 to 0945, 1015 to 1215 (8 hours)
- Saw that MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries and all DLCs are 60% off on GOG until Wed morning. Bought the base game, installed and played it a couple of hours. Did get fairly nauseous at the end. Only host needs to buy DLCs and I figure by the time we’re done with main content one of us can but the DLC pack.
Mon Aug 25 2025
Sleep 0300 to 1130 (8-1/2 hours)
- Called my Stifle account manager. Left a message.
Tue Aug 26 2025
Sleep 0400 to 1015 (6-1/4 hours)
- Called my Stifle account manager and left another message.
Wed Aug 27 2026
Sleep 0515 to 1300 (7-3/4 hours)
- Called Stifle account manager and left a message. Have been calling at 2 PM or later. If I can wake up early maybe I’ll catch him.
Thu Aug 28 2025
Sleep 0230 to 1030 (8 hours)
- Called Bob at Stifel again and left a message. This time at 1230 which I think is the earliest I’ve called.
- HOA Meeting. Went well I think.
- Finally decided to mute our building WhatsApp channel. There’s the one guy who’s talkative and negative all the time which gets kind of depressing. But just in general it’s become a bad news channel and an example of why unmoderated social media is not mentally healthy.
Fri Aug 29 2025
Sleep 0430 to 1030, 1h nap (7 hours)
- Called Stifle again about 1315.
- Went through and checked beneficiaries. Didn’t have it set of HSA and a HYSA and my oldest 401K only had my brother not my sister.
Personal Wiki Criteria
Aug 28 2025
Building off my last post four key features:
Assumption is that other features like attachments and media are basic and universal.
Wiki.js
BookStack which I've looked at before settling on Wiki.js. They have a demo site where you can try out how it looks and operates.
- Blog and Podcast with RSS feeds
- Search: show surrounding context of found search terms; search operators an extra plus
- Diagrams or other built in drawing
- Version history and diff
Assumption is that other features like attachments and media are basic and universal.
Wiki.js
- blog/podcast (none) - Blog feature is planned though I guess it's been marked planned for 6 years.
- search (basic)
- diagrams (high)
- version history and diff (high).

- Blog/podcast (none) - shelves+books model means a blog/podcast doesn't make sense so I guess won't be added. There is a simple rss feed hack (which are third-party created customizations to BookStack).
- Diagrams (high) - uses diagrams.net which is the same as for Wiki.js. I guess one thing to mention is that Wiki.js only supports diagrams in Markup pages not Rich Text pages, which doesn't bother me much since all my pages are done in Markup.
- Search (basic) - seems the same as Wiki.js in that it only returns page titles. Though it does have an advanced search with more options (though I wouldn't call it advanced, more like basic plus or medium).
- Version history and diff (low) - has version history and you can click each version to see changes. Wiki.js has a cool diff UI where yo can click click click and rapidly see changes between one of the last few versions (B) and any version (A)
MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries Co-Op Play
Aug 26 2025
Some notes as I was researching before buying this game. I guess I'm pushing for this game to replace Tiny Tina's Wonderlands in our rotation.
1. Host plays the game like normal (follow story, choose missions, upgrade company), can invite friends to control Mechs during a battle.
https://steamcommunity.com/app/784080/discussions/0/3091137796299397315/
2. Only host needs to own DLCs
https://www.reddit.com/r/Mechwarrior5/comments/101h972/how_does_coop_work_when_only_one_player_has_dlc/
3. Co-Op works across platforms and stores, though not necessarily through native friends system. If it doesn't work natively you can use Piranha Games ID to find friends that way.

I bought and installed the game. I have a MBP M4 Pro using CrossOver. Installed GOG Galaxy then used it to install MW5. Game runs fine with default medium graphics settings. I think it blipped a bit first time I fired a weapon but then seemed fine. Played the tutorial and the first scenario — about two hours including wandering around the dropship since that's done with a first-person shooter POV — and didn't encounter any problems with gameplay so works great so far in CrossOver. Never had more than three enemy vehicles fighting me so maybe it'll be laggy in a 4v4 mech combat.
BTW hosting a co-op game is not enabled yet. I suppose once I get out of the first area and can hire more pilots (at the beginning its setup where you are the only pilot and have two mechs) I'll be able to host co-op game.

Diary - Aug 16 to Aug 22 2025
Aug 23 2025
Sat Aug 16 2025
Sleep 0430 to 0830, 1200 to 1400 (6 hours)
Sun Aug 17 2025
Sleep 0300 to 1200 (9 hours)
Mon Aug 18 2025
Sleep 0315 to 1130 (8-1/4 hours)
Tue Aug 19 2025
Sleep 0630 to 1315 (6-3/4 hours)
Wed Aug 20 2025
Sleep 0600 to 1230 (6-1/2 hours)
Thu Aug 21 2025
Sleep 0400 to 1200 (8 hours)
Fri Aug 22 2025
Sleep 0815 to 1215, half hour nap (4-1/2 hours)
Sleep 0430 to 0830, 1200 to 1400 (6 hours)
- Fire alarm from a unit in the 3rd floor. The units themselves I’m not sure can trigger the building alarm. But the kitchen connects to the interior hallway so burning food and turning on the fan spews fumes in the hallway and the building alarm will then go off.
Sun Aug 17 2025
Sleep 0300 to 1200 (9 hours)
- Last night we played Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands. Got three or four side quests done. At midnight I kind of stopped and the other guys did a long hour-long side quest while I was just at the start soaking up XP.
Mon Aug 18 2025
Sleep 0315 to 1130 (8-1/4 hours)
- Deposit cash. Once again ATM refuses one of the bills. Sometimes they’re finicky.
- Safeway for Rice-a-roni. Flavored rice is nice as an occasional thing.
- Gas up car at Exxon because Apple Card promotion of 5% cash back instead of 2.5%. Probably not worth it.
- Trader Joe’s for milk, lemonade (love lemonade because so much flavor even when watered way down but kind of low in vitamin C which worries me so I sometimes get orange juice), potatoes (don’t eat potatoes that much but a nice alternative to rice and pasta), avocados and potato chips.
Tue Aug 19 2025
Sleep 0630 to 1315 (6-3/4 hours)
- Apple still hasn’t charged my CC from an Aug 20 in-app purchase. I remember they would wait a few days before charging a CC to gang up charges and reduce CC fees (which are a high percentage of costs when most purchases are $1 or $2 in-app fees). But over a week seems too long. Anyway I guess I won’t be buying the other Resident Evil full-game unlocks.
- Noticed DriveThruComics now shows a few recommended buys when you start checkout. Annoying and don’t see a way to turn it off in account settings.
Wed Aug 20 2025
Sleep 0600 to 1230 (6-1/2 hours)
- C3+S dinner. We had leftovers which is fine since they often have a lot and they’re aggressive about throwing away old food.
- Dave S came over as he’s helping CSr set up new security cameras which requires a bit of electrical work. We went to Home Depot a couple of times.
Thu Aug 21 2025
Sleep 0400 to 1200 (8 hours)
- Leagues Cup Elimination Round. 4 MLS vs 4 Liga teams and MLS wins all four games so it’ll be US teams in spots #1 to #4.
Fri Aug 22 2025
Sleep 0815 to 1215, half hour nap (4-1/2 hours)
- 11 days later Apple finally charged my credit card for Resident Evil 2 full unlock. Unfortunately RE sale is over but I guess they’ll do the sale again since they did it before and next time I’ll buy earlier and maybe get two purchases done.
- This also means I’m not sure about doing any purchases until Sep 01 since it might be charged this month. Too uncertain to purchase on an Apple online store if I want to get exactly 10 credit card purchases for the month.
- We finally finished Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, though of course now we can play it again at a harder mode with up gunned characters.
RapidWeaver Classic vs Wiki.js
Aug 21 2025
I suppose if I stop paying for RapidWeaver Classic it'll eventually stop working. Also their big thing is RapidWeaver Elements. I'm sure Classic will still be maintained so it keeps working with current macOS but paying $80 per year for maintenance support is way overkill. I've been thinking maybe moving the web site to a wiki — well, I mean if I start again it'll be a v6 web site from scratch with old content frozen in current format.
I've been using Wiki.js for my D&D campaign record keeping. It runs on Node.js with Postgres back end. It's fairly portable and future proof as long as macOS subsystem is Unix-like — and it's even backwards portable to fairly old systems since there are several macOS-based package managers. As a final future-proof since it's not a dynamic site I can use wget to download the site and freeze it as html files (mostly I'd do this if I move to a different wiki so I don't have to keep two wikis running).
RSS feeds for Journal and Reviews - not sure it's in their road map and Wiki.js is not updated that fast. But I can manually create an RSS feed like I do for my podcast feeds.
Organization and navigation - RapidWeaver uses a standard macOS document view with a left pane for navigating folders so it's easy to move around pages and jump around editing. Wiki.js being a wiki I find a bit more cumbersome updating after a D&D session as I have several pages open and editing things here and there. At least it warns you if you try to close an unsaved window.
Editor search - Here I'm talking about searching as a back end editor. RapidWeaver searching for content in the app is really fast and shows you the line where the search term is found so it's easy to find the right page. Wiki.js you use the user-facing search function which is also fast but doesn't show your search term in context, just the page title and description. Search from Editor is actually fairly important.
Although both have media/resources panel RapidWeaver has an easier one to use. Wiki.js media panel is accessibly from page edit mode though making it accessible from top level is in the road map I think.
Marketplace - I never used the marketplace since I didn't want to buy add-ons. They're kind of big on their Stacks (and there's another one) modules which allow drag and drop of page elements (and RapidWeaver Elements is all about that model). Frankly I'm not into making a fancy site for my personal web site.
Simulate - RapidWeaver has its own preview function and you can preview for various iPhone, iPad, and monitor sizes. Since I have a basic web site it's not that important to me.
Since it's a wiki being able to have different editors is nice though my gaming group has been uninterested.
I like the support for diagrams (via some third party site I think but rendering is done by Wiki.js so even if the third party site dies the diagrams will still render). Maybe not as convenient as having a dungeon mapper but it's also more generic. Built-in support means I don't have to use a third party dungeon mapper then export the picture and upload it to the wiki.
Last week there was a question if Myrbelle had done stat upgrade. Since the backend is a database it was easy to go back versions and see when I made changes and that the character had been updated (and it shows you highlighted differences and it's really fast to cycle through different versions). Version history is really powerful and RapidWeaver does not have this at all.
I guess in summary things I lose with RapidWeaver Classic are things I can do manually. Wiki.js adds a couple of nice features that RapidWeaver cannot do at all.

- Sonic Mobile apps is nice in that if you get a phone call it’ll ring like a phone. But if it’s in the background too long I guess iOS kills its connection so it’ll send a notification asking you to open the app. Since I never really get phone calls it does get annoying so I’ll turn notifications off for that app.
- Last night and tonight we played DDO with the old party where CSr and DW and I each play two characters. We did Legendary Peril of the Planar Eyes at R5/R6 and did the first two Soul Splitter at R6. I forgot how good we are with these characters. At R6 still mostly easy though Soul Splitter 1 (Finding Dorris) we lost all three primary characters. That quest has constrained spaces and we weren’t as familiar with it as others.
Sun Aug 10 2025
Sleep 0230 to 1100 (8-1/2 hours)
- Bought macOS Resident Evil 2 full unlock ($10) on sale. Hopefully will do a couple more before the sale ends Aug 21.
Mon Aug 11 2025
Sleep 0315 to 1215 (9 hours)
- Fidelity guys finally caught me as I answered the phone before checking who it was. I politely declined their financial advice service. Mostly because I don’t have the flexibility to do anything. 401K has limited choices which leaves my regular stocks of which I don’t have much of and need to keep selling anyways.
Tue Aug 12 2025
Sleep 0430 to 1130 (7 hours)
- Peninsula Health Care District has a pilot in my area code and I received a Deterra bag. Put your expired drugs in, half fill with water, close pouch and dispose in trash. Pretty neat and I do have a lot of expired drugs though the pouch is only good for 45 pills so I guess dispose of the most dangerous ones — I think I still have codeine from when I got a tooth pulled several years ago.
- Reading the FAQ there are also locations to drop off expired medications for disposal.
Wed Aug 13 2025
Sleep 0300 to 1100 (8 hours)
- Went to dentist for cleaning.
- Stopped by Trader Joe’s for milk and orange juice.
- Stopped at Monterra to deposit cash. It rejected one bill. I’d guess it rejects less than 5% of bills which I have a small pile of and someday will deposit manually.
- Dinner at C3’s. Joy Sushi and I got a bento box with salmon teriyaki and California roll.
Thu Aug 14 2025
Sleep 0430 to 0845, 0900 to 1130 (6-3/4 hours)
- AT&T Customer Data Security Breach Class Action Settlement. Filled out the form. If you have documented loss (which I guess would be insurance claim or police report) then you can get up to $2500. Otherwise you get a share of whatever is left over. Nice payment options including PayPal and Venmo, though I’ll settle for paper check to avoid PayPal fees for what will be a small amount of money and I don’t want to hand over my ACH details.
- A second class action, this one is for Capital One 360 Savings. I guess they were paying less interest rate than they claimed. This one strongly recommends using electronic payment as paper check payments less than $5 will not be sent and your payment is forfeited. This one I’ll use PayPal and we’ll see what happens.
Fri Aug 15 2025
Sleep 2300 to 0600, 0945 to 1300 (10-1/4 hours)
- CB got laid off (today I think). Sucks but she’s a PE (Professional Engineer) so can probably get another job easily.
- Too many Windows 10 updates so we played Gloomhaven. I switched character to the bard.
Apple Arcade 2023 Anticipation
Aug 14 2025
Looking at Apple Arcade 2023 games I'm looking forward to trying these three:
Retro Bowl: American Football. I think I looked at this once before and it seemed too complicated.
Slay the Spire: Card-based rogue-like. Was very popular streamer game for a while.
Stardew Valley: Farming game with dungeon delving. I make fun of it sometimes but have never played it or seen it played.

Favorite Apple Arcade Games of 2022
Aug 12 2025
I finally finished looking at the Apple Arcade games released in 2022, some of which are already off the store. Five games were good enough for me to save for remembrance or to play again in the future.
Jigsaw Puzzle by MobilityWare+ — Kind of a relaxing and zen-like activity. Engages your mind without being taxing.
Bloons TD 6+ — A cute tower defense game with quite a bit of complexity
GRIS+ — An elegant non-violent platformer with a storyline told without speech or text.
Monument Valley+ — I replayed it and maybe doesn't stand the test of time but it's still a nicely implemented small game.
Alto's Adventure - Remastered — Another old classic with elegant gameplay and good for a few hours fun. It has one new environment with its own challenges.
Monument Valley and GRIS I played to finish. Alto's Adventure I played for a while and got to the new environment a few times. Bloons TD 6 I played a lot and then got stuck on a certain level.
Jigsaw Puzzle is the only one I see myself playing again. At the highest detail it's quite a task to finish a puzzle but rather satisfying since you're always making a bit of progress each session.

Sleep 0230 to 0630, 1 hour nap (5 hours)
- Gaming at Sophia and Woo’s (D&D Session 26). Woke up early to feed cat. Couldn’t get back to sleep. Was a bit punchy. We did get almost 4 hours of gaming though it was mostly Dave S doing stuff.
- Group dinner at Dave’s Hot Chicken because that’s where Jonathan wanted to go. Unimpressed.
Sun Aug 03 2025
Sleep 0330 to 0730, 0800 to 1200 (8 hours)
- Even after 8 hours of sleep (with a break in between to feed cat) I was still tired all day.
Mon Aug 04 2025
Sleep 0230 to 0730, 1115 to 1415 (8 hours)
- Recovering sleep.
- Need to check if I still have Medi-Cal or not.
- Vaults of Vaarn 2E Backerkit. “Vaarn is a science-fantasy tabletop RPG setting…It draws inspiration from novels such as Dune, Hyperion, The Book of the New Sun, and the graphic works of Moebius.” 1E was being released in ‘zine form and I have the first three (of four) issues, although it looks like issue 4 is not part of 2E as it was set outside Vaarn. It uses its own system based on Knave and it is £18 PDF. Probably won’t buy it.
Tue Aug 05 2025
Sleep 0145 to 0715 (5-1/2 hours)
- Spent an hour trying to find out if my BenefitsCal change of income was reviewed since I expect to lose Medi-Cal. Went to CoveredCA where you can also report income change so I did it there. A bit of a confusing system. In any case if I go to CoveredCA it won’t let me apply for anything else until the change of income is reviewed. Guess I’ll give them a day to process (which admittedly would be really fast for government) and call them Thursday.
- Actually the CoveredCA home page says go to BenefitsCal to speed up process which I guess is why I submitted my change there in the first place. Don’t quite remember.
Wed Aug 06 2025
Sleep 0615 to 1400 (7-3/4 hours)
- Stayed up late enough that easier to stay up another hour or two then feed the cat an early breakfast.
- C3+S dinner. Leftovers.
- Went to see The Fantastic Four: First Steps with CSr.
- RapidWeaver Elements 1.0 released from RealMac — I use their RapidWeaver Classic product. It’s been around for a couple of years as a paid beta. I don’t care enough about a fancy and interactive web site to switch over. In fact a wiki is probably what I’ve wanted all along except that wikis imply a database which must also be maintained which is why I haven’t ever fully committed to putting my web site in a wiki.
Thu Aug 07 2025
Sleep 0330 to 0800 (4-1/2 hours)
- Leagues Cup (between the US MLS and Mexico Liga) phase 1 ends Saturday. In phase 1 everyone plays three games then it’s back to regular league play. The best four teams in each league advance to phase 2 maybe in a couple of weeks or next month. Kind of nice because all these games I get behind on watching so with this format no chance of me accidentally seeing who advanced (which happened last year) before I’ve finished watching phase 1 games.
Fri Aug 08 2025
Sleep 2230 to 0700 (8-1/2 hours)
- Toyota Walnut Creek for car service. $524.
- Breakfast at Buttercup a few minutes walk away. Eggs Benedict with Pastrami, Hashbrowns, Cherry Pie, Coffee. $40.
- When I went to feed unit 317 cat he hadn’t eaten breakfast. Turns out the guest there hasn’t seen the cat all day. Hope it didn’t escape and run away. Anyway guest said he’ll call unit 317 owner in case he knows cat hide somewhere special.
The Witcher RPG Bundle
Aug 07 2025
The Witcher Tabletop RPG Bundle is $15 for 4 books, a GM screen supplement, and a free PDF. This is published by R Talsorian and uses their Interlock System which has been around for almost 40 years and also used in the current Cyberpunk 2020 RPG.
The Witcher RPG (2018) - 336 pages.
The Witcher: Easy Mode (2019) - 32-page quick start. This is a free download.
Lords & Lands (2019) - 16 pages, GM's screen.
A Witcher's Journal (2020) - 160 pages with monsters and supplemental rules
A Book of Tales (2021) - 176 pages with six adventures.
A Tome of Chaos (2022) - 216 pages with more magic spells and stuff
Looking in RPG Geek these are the official released products. The RPG line is on hold since Sep 2023 until The Witcher 4 computer game is released and that is currently 2027+.
What is here doesn't seem interesting enough to buy (especially since I've never played the computer games) but at least seems like enough material to run a campaign.

The Expanse and Modern AGE Bundle
Aug 05 2025
It's the third time for The Expanse and Modern AGE bundle. I’ve been listening to Ty & That Guy podcast which is going over each Expanse tv show episode so this bundle is more interesting than before.
Modern AGE Basic Rulebook (192 pages, $19)
Modern AGE Companion (128 pages, $18)
Threefold (184 pages, $20) - campaign setting
Enemies & Allies (128 pages, $18)
Missions: Warflower (21 pages, $5) - adventure
Modern AGE Game Master's Kit (18 pages $4)
The Expanse RPG (260 pages, $27)
Ships of the Expanse (144 pages, $20)
The Expanse Game Master's Kit (46 pages, $10)
Abzu's Bounty (138 pages, $19) - adventure path
Savage Op (11 pages, $4) - adventure
Beyond the Ring (128 pages) - supplement that covers the 4th novel
Secrets of Lemuria (23 pages) - adventure
Sol System (112 pages) - supplement
The Modern AGE part is not interesting so a tough pill to swallow (The Expanse is standalone and doesn't require Modern AGE). The Expanse part doesn't cover the whole line, which is not that big in the first place. I am unmoved.

- Gloomhaven with DS and DW. We finished the last quest and did another one. Both for the Brute and I guess we should concentrate on finishing out the Level 9 characters as that’s the max level.
Sun Jul 27 2025
Sleep 0345 to 0930 (5-3/4 hours)
- Nemo in Riyadh for Esports World Cup doing content. She streamed at 2000 local which is 1000 here and I happened to be awake. Because of heat EWC is more of an evening to very late evening event so I expect streams will start 1000 or later my time so I need to get up early-ish this week.
Mon Jul 28 2025
Sleep 0430 to 1230 (8 hours)
- American Express web login is a little annoying because it wants to verify on you iOS App by default and I don’t see a way to change it. I’ll try deleting the app on my iPhone and iPad.
- Finally used my Nordstrom’s gift card (received it Jan 01 2024). XL Ralph Lauren t-shirts and underwear for $98 (with tax and free 2-day shipping). Let’s see if it fits and if so maybe I’ll buy more before their sale ends August 03.
Tue Jul 29 2025
Sleep 0315 to 0945, 1 hour nap (7-1/2 hours)
- I’ll be looking after unit 317’s cat for about 10 days. Cat will live there and I need to go give it breakfast and dinner.
Wed Jul 30 2025
Sleep 0815 to 1415 (6 hours)
- First day looking after unit 317’s cat. Went there and gave Banksy his dinner (dry food) and cleaned litter box.
- Mac App Store versions of Resident Evil are on sale: 2 ($10, 67% off), 3 ($10, 75% off), 4 ($20, 67% off), 7 biohazard ($8, 60% off), Village ($10, 75% off) are on sale. They all require M1 processors so I assume they use Apple Metal graphics.
Thu Jul 31 2025
Sleep 2345 to 0345, 1400 to 1600 (6 hours)
- Tried the pool thermometer and when I put it in pool (upside down so the water flows in) and waited temperature didn’t seem to change. Checked it after a few hours still the same. Took it home and used warm water and it did register the 90 degree temperature and as the water cooled it slowly went down so I guess it does work. Will try again tomorrow.
- Vortex tech came by at 0930 and the front door closer (of the door that has the key lock, which is the door used all the time) is leaking so he had to go back to the warehouse to get a replacement and then replaced it and was done by 1330. He also fixed an issue where the other door’s bottom lock wasn’t engaging and screwed in the loose base plate (that keeps the door from swinging inwards).
Fri Aug 01 2025
Sleep 0030 to 0730, 90m nap (8-1/2 hours)
- Darn. I switched Twitch payment to Apple Card so I could buy 100k bits and then forgot to change it back so my three subscriptions re-subbed using Apple Card rather than my credit union.
